JOHN SCOFIELD, an old citizen of this county died at his residence near this place at age of 76. January 30, 1873 Married Jan. 23d near Columbiana by REV. BRUCE HARRIS, MR. THOMAS W. TINNEY to MARTHA L. SIMPSON. At Shelby Iron Works, Jan 22d by REV. BRUCE HARRIS, MR. JOHN ANCHORS to MISS ROXANA HORTON. MRS. CAROLINE DUPRIEST sister of F. M. MANN of Wetumpka was burned to death near that place on 17th. GEN. SAM G. HARDAWAY died in Montgomery last Sun. He was one of the few who escaped murder at the hands of Indians who captured a stage coach between Montgomery and Columbus. He was in the war which achieved independence of Texas, a member of the American army in Mexico also a member of the 6th Alabama in the late war (vol. 202, p. 33). Feb ruary 13, 1873 MAJ. W. IT. LANIER took possession of Selma, Rome and Dallas Railroad as Receiver last Monday. REV. JAMES L. COTTEN many years a citizen of Dallas County and member of the Alabama Methodist Conference died at Durant, Texas on the 4th inst. February 27, 1873 Died near Shelby Iron Works on 7th, of pneumonia, MRS. SALLIE A. DUNLAP. Married in the place Tue. morning 25th at the residence of MRS. M. S. BRASHER the bride's mother, by REV. BRUCE HARRIS, MR. WILLIS W. WALL, to MISS LIZZIE BRASHER, all of this place. March 6, 1873 Married in St. Clair County on 20th, MR. ABNER CROW and MISS ELLEN HODGES. MICAL TAUL, Esq. of Talladega died at Tampa, Fla. on 13th of consumptions. He was respected and honored by all who knew him and for 131 - (3431)
