July 25, 1838 Administrator's Notice 18 May 1838. Judge of County Court of Chambers County granted letters of administration on estate of JAMES McLAIN, deceased, to MARIA McLAIN and JOHN McLAIN. August 1, 1838 Married on 19th inst. by REV. J. C. KEENEY, MR. JOHN MILLER to MISS MELVINA A. CARTER, both of Tuscaloosa. See our Vol. 8 p. 51. August 8, 1838 Married on the evening of 31st ult. by REV. MR. DeVOTIE, MR. GEORGE D. PEARSON of Greene County to MISS SARAH, daughter of HENRY T. ANTONY, Esq. of this city. See our Vol. 9 p. 18. Died on Monday 30th of July in her 24th year of perpureal fever at the residence of her brother-in-law, HON. JOHN G. CREAGH, near Clarkesville, Clarke County, Ala. MRS. ANN D. CREAGH, consort of MR. ALEXANDER CREAGH of Clarke County. Also left infant son seven days old. Her aged widowed mother, brothers and sisters also survive. August 15, 1838 TABITHA SHIELDS versus JOSEPH SHIELDS. Defendant is not a resident of this state. August 29, 1838 Married 21st inst. by REV. THOMAS A. SMITH, JAMES HAIR, Esq. of Livingston, Sumpter Co. Ala. to MISS MARTHA W. JENKINS of this city. Died in this city Monday evening last, ROSWELL, son of V. HART aged about 5 years. Died Saturday 4th of August at his residence in Marengo County after a painful illness of a few days, DANIEL HENRY TILLINGHASTE, formerly of South Carolina, but for many years a highly respectable inhabitant of this state. JAMES T. BURDINE, administrator of estate of JOSEPH MARTIN, deceased late of Pickens Co. September 12, 1838 Married in this city Thursday evening 6th inst by REV. DANIEL BAKER, CAPT. H(OLLIS) C. KIDDER to MISS MARY C. (S) WASHINGTON. See our Vol. 8 p. 38. Obituary: JOSEPH MARTIN was a native of Union District, South Carolina. He was born November 26, 1802 and with his father and mother and other family connections emigrated to the west in 1821, then being about 19. His father, with whom he had always lived, settled near Yorkville, now is in Pickens County, where he has ever since resided. When the call for volunteers to protect Florida from horrors of savage warfare came, MR. MARTIN, then Major of battalion, volunterred as a private soldier and was elected Captain of Volunteers from Pickens County.... After his return, he was in 1836 elected to the Legislature, re-elected in 1837 and 1838 and on the very day of his death was chosen for third time a Representative. He died 7th of August, 1838 at 2 o'clock. Died in this city on 28th, WILLIAM MORRISON, an old and worthy citizen. Died in this vicinity on 3rd inst at her father's residence, HENRY S. SIMONTON, Esq. MISS CECELIA SIMONTON after a protracted illness. September 19, 1838 State of Alabama-Bibb County. Orphans Court Sept. Term 1838. WILLIAM H. WILSON and JOHNS LATHAM, administrators of estate of JOHN WILSON, deceased JOHN WILSON, ROBERT WILSON and HARRIET LATHAM, wife of BAILEY LATHAM, ENOCH M. BROWN, E. P. SMITHERMAN, MARTHA A. SMITHERMAN, ROBERT D. SMITHERMAN, LUIZA J. SMITHERMAN, HARRIET SMITHERMAN and ANDREW SMITHERMAN, all heirs of deceased. JOHN and ROBERT WILSON and HARRIED LATHAM reside beyond limits of the state. 162 - (3462)
