HOLCOMBE October 21, 1840 Died in this city on Monday the 19th inst. of billious fever, WILLIAM GAINES McDANIEL aged 15 years. This young mam had been for several months in the employ of this office. Proclomatiom: JAMES C. RAYMOND, late of Tuscaloosa County murdered EUGENE FANNILL, Reward offered by Governor October 27, 1840 Private Boarding for young ladies by MRS. CANTLEY, widow of the late MAJOR JOHN CANTLEY, deceased. Married at the Episcopal Church in this city on Thursday 22d inst. at 7 o'clock by REV. MR. KNAPP, DR. L(UTHER) L. SKINNER to MISS SOPHIA PERRY, daughter of HON. SION L. PERRY. See our Vol. 13 p. 23. We are pleased to learn by last news from Texas that WASHINGTON D. MILLER, Esq., formerly of this city and a graduate of the University of Alabama has been elected a member of Congress from the county of Gonzales. MR. MILLER emigrated to Texas about 12 months since. November 4, 1840 PETER DONALDSON advertises rates of Bell Tavern. Obituary: Died on 20th ult. at residence of his father, ROBERT WALKER, JUN. after a long and painful illness aged 27 years, 8 months and 2 days. Left behinds an effectionate wife and two little sons. November 11, 1840 Married in this vicinity 5th inst. by REV. J. L. DAGG, MR. N(ICHOLAS) W. PRINCE to MISS MARY HILL, daughter of JAMES FOSTER, Esq. all of this county. November 18, 1840 Died on Monday 16th Nov. at the Mansion House in this city, Virginia, infant daughter of DR. DAVID MOORE of Madison County aged 13 months and 4 days. December 2, 1840 DR. DAVID MORROW, dentist. December 9, 1840 Another Revolutionary soldier gone! Departed this life in Pickens County, Ala. on 23d of November last, MR. JAMES McCRORY, a native of Ireland. He was born on 15th of May, 1758 at Larga on the River Bann in the County of Antrim, Ireland. He sailed from Belfast in the year 1775 and landed at Baltimore 1st July same year. In 1776, he settled in Guilford County, North Carolina and the same year enlisted in continental service as it was then called. He was at the battle of Bradywine under GEN. WASHINGTON, at battle of Germantown under GEN. WASHINGTON and wintered at Valley Forge in Pa. He fought under GEN. GREENE at Guilford; was at battle of Eutaw Springs and at battle of Stono. He was with GEN. GATES at his defeat and with Morgan at battle of the Cowpens. For courage, services and good conduct, he was promoted to the rank of Ensign in GEN. WASHINGTON'S Corps of Force (or Life Guards) and while belonging to the Corps was taken 167 - (3467)
