August 11, 1841 (Communicated) Died of a bilious attack at his home near Jonesboro, Alabama on 31st ult. REV. HOSEA HOLCOMBE aged 61 years and 11 days. The disease came came on while he was traveling at a distance of 75 or 80 miles from home and with much difficulty, he reached his residence on the third day, after which he lay 8 days and bore his affliction without a murmur. The subject of this notice had been for about 40 years an indefatigable laborer in the Gospel Church. He was the author of several small publications and of the history of the Baptists in Alabama.... Left a widow and many friends. August 18 1841 STEPHEN ELLEDGE on the night of 17th of July murdered HENRY FRANKS in Tuscaloosa County. Reward offered by Governor. ELLEDGE described as being about 40 years old. Reward offered for arrest of WILLIAM RUFF, who on 23rd February 1839 murdered DANIEL HENDRICK, late of Tuscaloosa Co. Married at Starkville, Miss, by REV. J. C. KEENEY, MR. JAMES BELL to MISS REBECCA A. MONTGOMERY, both of Starkville, Miss. Died in Perry County on 26th ult. DR. JOHN F. WALLIS aged 58 years formerly Professor of Moral Philosophy in University of Alabama. August 25, 1841 Married in vicinity of this city on 19th inst. by REV. JOHN OWEN, MR. EDWARD A(UGUSTUS) HAUG to MISS MARY TEMPERANCE WARE. See our Vol. 2 p. 72. Married in Pickens County on 15th inst by REV. GEORGE SHAFFER, COL. NATHANIEL SMITH, formerly of Madison County to MRS. FRANCES ANDERSON of Pickens County. Huntsville Democrat please copy. At a meeting of the officers of the 5th Brigade, 2nd Division A.M. and the volunteers who served in the Florida campaign in 1736 to pay respects to the late COL. CHARLES LEWIN, deceased. He accompanied the Alabama Volunteers in 1836 to Florida as Quartermaster General. GEO. W. CRABB, Chairman W. JOHN WHITING, Sec'y September 1, 1841 Died in this city on Friday last, the 27th ult. MR. JOHN S. ANDRESS. Died in this county on Sunday, the 8th inst. MRS. E(LIZ.) H. NORSWORTHY aged 64 years, wife of SAMUEL NORSWORTHY. During her affliction of eight days she suffered great pain. She was a devoted wife and mother. Another Revolutionary Patriot Gone: Died on 14th inst. at his residence in Granger County, Tennessee, WILLIAM CLAY, Esq., father of the HON. C. C. CLAY, Senator in Congress from Alabama. The deceased was bom in the county of Chesterfield, in the state of Virginia on the 11th day of August 1760. Consequently, when he died he was within one week of completing his 81st year. He entered the Revolutionary army at the early age of 16, served several tours of duty with the militia of his native state and aided in the closing scene of the War of Independence by his services at the seige of Yorktown and the capture of LORD CORNWALLIS. Went off: From Chester District, South Carolina last winter, JAMES LAND and BENJAMIN NICKELS, who are settled somewhere in Alabama in Cherokee County near Leesburg P. 0. Said men went off without paying their debts to merchants and others and may do so again. This is to warn all honest men to take care and not credit them. thos.
