He was favorably known throughout the state, having formerly represented Clarke County in the Legislature, Also recently, Judge of County Court of Clarke County and he occupied many other stations of honor. He left a large family and numerous relatives. September 27, 1843 Married in this city on Thursday evening last by REV. DR. JOHN OWEN, MR. GEORGE B. QUINN to MISS SUSAN T. MASSENGALE. Obituary: Departed this life a few days since, near Tuscaloosa, MISS ELIZABETH CALDWELL aged about 65 years, She was a native of Ireland and emigrated to South Carolina about 1787, and in 1818 moved with her parents to this state and has lived in or near Tuscaloosa since that time... Presbyterian.... So lived and so died this dear lady and as we hope, child of God. Obituary: Died in this city on Wednesday, the 26th ult. COLONEL PETER DONALDSON, an old and highly respected citizen; COL. DONALDSON was born at Cheraw, Chesterfield District, South Carolina on the 15th of May, 1777 AD. He removed to Augusta, Georgia in 1795 and in 1809 was elected sheriff of Richmond County, Georgia. This office he filled until 1818, also having served as colonel in the militia. In 1818, he removed to Indian Springs, Georgia and thence to this city in 1824, where he has since been known as an enterprising, public-spirited citizen and as the worthy host of the Bell Tavern. In his private circle, COL. DONALDSON had been familiar with intense affliction. Cut of ten children, eight on full flush of youth, had preceded him to an untimely grave.....Buried on Thursday last with Masonic honors. Sermon was preached by REV. MR. CAPERS of this city. October 18, 1843 Died at his residence in this city on Saturday, the 14th inst. MR. STEPHEN B. COMBS, formerly of Philadelphia. Obituary: Died in Columbiana, Shelby County, Alabama on the 29th of September 1843, NOEL MASON, Esq. Clerk of the County Court, and aged about 31 years.
