It becomes our melancholy duty to record the death of our most valuable citizen, ALVA FINLEY, Esq. who died about 9 o'clock this morning, the 13th instant... Left a wife and child...(Jackson County Democrat) Note: tombstone at Bellefonte- d Nov. 13, 1843 aged 38 yrs 27 days November 29, 1843 Married at the residence of THOMAS LEE in Tuscaloosa County on the 2ed instant by E. A. MONTGOMERY, Esq. WILLIAM R. SMITH, Esq. of this city to MISS JANE ELIZABETH BINION. Died in this city on Wednesday the 22d instant, MARTHA ANN ELIZA, aged 5 years, daughter of HON. H. W. January 17, 1844 Died in this city Friday evening last, the 12th instant, THOMAS, aged 2 years and 8 months. On Sunday the 14th instant in the afternoon, JAMES aged 5 years. On the evening of the same day, LEWIS aged 3 years and 7 months, all children of ROBERT A. EATON, proprietor of the Democratic Gazette. All died of scarlet fever. We extend our sympathy to the mourning mother. January 31, 1843 (misprint or odd copy?) Died in this city Thursday evening last, ROBERT HARRIS, only child of R. A. EATON, aged 9 months. Note: The date should be 1844. Obituary: Died on the 31st of December in his 87th year, ELIJAH McGUIRE in Tuscaloosa County. He was bom in Cumberland County, Virginia on the 19th of January, 1857; from thence moved to South Carolina. At an early age, he enlisted as a soldier in a regiment commanded by COL. WILLIAM THOMPSON and was one of the company of CAPTAIN JOHN BUCHANNAN. The post of danger at the time was the city of Charleston, and hastening with his companies to defence of that city, he was taken prisoner of war at the capitulation. Immediately on his exchange, he attached himself to a troop of light horse, commanded by GENERAL SUMTER and continued in active service until the war was concluded. He was distinguished for ardent patriotism and eminent courage and was connected with many daring and perilous enterprises in defense of his country. After the war, he married MISS EVERETT WILLIAMS, with whom he lived a happy life for upwards of 60 years and who, now, a widow in her 83rd year of age, mourns his loss. They were both Baptists for nearly half a century.... February 7, 1844 Died on the island of Cuba, whither he had gone for health, OSCAR F. RAINEY, Esq. aged 23, formerly of Eutaw, Alabama. From Independent Monitor of Wednesday last. The subject was well known here. He finished his professional studies here and was admitted to practice.... E. G. FORREST advertises his tailoring business. Committed to the jail of Tuscaloosa County, a slave who says he belongs to the estate of HANNON PRUDE, late of Noxubee County, Mississippi deceased.
