Born in Nashville, Tenn, in 1785 just after the close of the Revolution. We believe he spent the earlier part of his life in the vicinity of his birthplace, a while in Huntsville, Ala. but our first knowledge of him was at Memphis, Tenn, over which city he presided as Chief Magistrate for many years, giving universal satisfaction. He came to San Antonio in the year 1853, where he resided over after with respect and love of all who ever knew him. He was not, we believe a professor of religion, but he was a man of true noble principles and sentiments and the soul of honor, a fine, perfect gentleman of the old school.
