For about 40 years a member of the M. E. Church. September 8, 1871 Died on the 6th in Corinth, Mississippi of pulmonary consumption JAMES H. NORVELL, son of MR. R. B. NORVELL, formerly of this city aged 20 years. Died in this city on the 4th, ARCHIE, son of GEORGE P. and MARY F. LANDMAN aged 19 months. September 15, 1871 Married on the 27th at Wayland Springs, Tennessee by JAMES A. STEWART, J.P., MR. PLEASANT SMALLWOOD to MISS A. C. JOHNSON. Married on Sept. 5 at the residence of the bride by REV. H. P. TURNER, MR. BURWELL C. GARNER to MRS. ELIZABETH BURNETT, all of this county. Married on the 7th at the residence of the bride's mother, by REV. JAMES S. BARTEE, MR. WILLIAM M. GORMLEY to MISS MARY ELLEN SULLIVAN all of this county. Married on the 6th at the residence of COL. ANDREW ERWIN of Lafayette (Chambers Co.), Ala. by REV. S. C. HEARN, MR. JAMES RENDER DOWDELL to MISS ROSA TURNER, niece of MRS. ANDREW ERWIN (nee ELVIRA SEARCY). (see Tenn Vol 7 p 69--d of DAN'L B. TURNER & wife SUSAN D. SEARCY) Died in this city on the 11th, VIOLA YOUNG, infant child of MR. and MRS. WILLIAM LAWLER aged about 6 weeks old. We regret to learn that MRS. MATILDA WALKER DOX, wife of HON. P. M. DOX of this place died here on the 13th. GEN. THOMAS McCOY of Mobile died on the 1st aged 64. In Baldwin Co. MISS ELIZABETH S. DADE died on the 27th aged 94 years 6 months. September 22, 1871 Married in Frederick City, Maryland on 6 Sept, by FATHER SMITH, MR. J. H. WHITE of the firm of COXE & WHITE of this city to MISS S. BIRDIE JOHNSON of Frederick City. Married on 14th at the residence of the bride's father in this city by REV. ANSON WEST, MR. CHARLES A. GILL to MISS SUE C. BLAKEMORE. Married on the 13th in Cincinnati, 0., MR. ISAIAH WEIL of this city to MISS EMMA L. WERTHEIMER of Cincinnati. Married in Arkadelphia (Clark Co., to McLane), Ark. August 27th by REV. J. F. CARR, MR. JAMES D. TATUM to MRS. MATTIE T. RUSSELL (nee SANFORD). Died in Coahoma Co. Miss, on 10 Sept. JOHN J. WEBSTER, formerly of this county, son of JAMES L. WEBSTER, aged 32 years 11 months and 7 days, leaving a wife and 4 small children. Died on the 10th near Meridianville, ROBERT WALTER PRUITT, son of MR. JOHN W. PRUITT aged about 25. HON. JAMES F. DOWDELL, Col. of 37th Ala. Regiment during the late war died at his residence in Auburn (Lee Co.), Alabama on the 12th. HON. JAMES F. DOWDELL of Chambers Co. died last week. He was formerly a Member of Congress. MAJ. MACE T(HOMAS) P(ARGNE) BRINDLEY (he was bro of ASA REGGS BRINDLY of Cherokee Co.) of Blount died about 2 weeks ago at an advanced age; for many years a member of both Houses of the Legislature. Also JUDGE JOHN C. GILLESPIE, for many years Clerk and Probate Judge of Blount. Both were old citizens. September 29, 1871 Died on the 17th in this county, TOMES 0. BURTON, son of THOMAS 0. and MINNIE BURTON aged nearly 12 years. HON. WM. WOODWARD (@ 58 SC; b York Dist SC Nov 15, 1792 moved to Chester Dist 1820 to Ga 3 yrs later, to Greene Co. Ala 1834 to Sumter Cb.1838) of Choctaw, for many years a member of the State Senate died last week aged 78. Baptist minister, (d. Sept. 7. 1871) REV. E(UGENE) STRODE, formerly a Baptist minister here and a man of decided ability, earnestness and usefulness died in Springfield 250 - (3550)
