January 6, 1877 Died at her residence near Corinth, Miss, on the 2nd, MRS. ELIZABETH COX, widow of the late GEORGE COX and mother of MRS. JOHN D. CHADICK of this city. MRS. COX was a former resident of Huntsville and was highly esteemed for her truly benevolent and Christian virtues. Her demise was very sudden, dying within one hour after being taken. Married in Como, Miss, on 3rd at residence of bride's father by REV. DR. WHITE of Memphis, MR. CHARLES R. BROWN, formerly of this city and MISS JENNIE McGEHEE. January 13, 1877 News from New Hope--WILLIS CARPENTER, living near here is probably the oldest man in the county. He is 99. January 20, 1877 Married at the residence of the bride's father on Jan. 14, MR. SIMON EMRICH of Huntsville to MISS SARAH SOMMER of 542 5th St. New York City. The many friends of HERMON HUMPHREY, Esq. of this city will regret to learn of the death of his mother, MRS. SUSANNAH H(ERVEY) HUMPHREY, which occurred on 13th. (she was d of HERMAN B. JOE THOMAS, formerly of Huntsville died recently in Little Rock (Pulaski Co.), Ark. (to McLane) of consumption. He was a brother of MRS. JOHN W. COOPER of this city. He was in the Confederate army as an officer under GEN. JOE SHELBY. We regret to learn of the death of two estimable ladies of Madison, MRS. THOMAS CAIN aged about 40 and MRS. SARAH FARLEY in her 81st yr. Tribute of respect--SAMUEL WISE by Forest Home Range #514. Married at the residence of the bride's mother near Whitesburg on 24th by REV. ALEX. PENLAND, MAJ. D. C. B. DUNLAP and MISS JOSIE MILLER. February 3, 1877 Married at residence of bride in this vicinity on 25 Jan., MAJ. J. W. ELDRIDGE, late of Mo. and MRS. M. S. DRAKE of vicinity of Huntsville. Married Jan. 13th, MR. NELSON to MISS MARY M. BROWN, both of Rockford, Ill. Married in Dallas, Tex. on 24 Jan. by RT. REV. BISHOP, A. C. GARRET, of Tex. MR. FRED MANGET and MISS HATTIE TROTMAN of Dallas. Died, one of our old friends, J. TROTMAN, a well-known merchant of this city. February 10, 1877 Married in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in this city on Thurs. evening Feb. 8th by REV. R. M. TINNON, MR. ROBERT L. O'NEAL and MISS KATE ELLIOTT, all of Huntsville. In the Presbyterian Church in this city on evening of 8th by REV. DR. RAYMOND of Marion, Ala. assisted by REV. J. DeWITT BURKHEAD, MR. WM. M. RAYMOND of Selma and MISS DICIE PATTON, daughter of JOHN PATTON, Esq. of this vicinity. Married on 7 Jan. last by REV. J. H. DRAKE, WILLIAM A. SADLER, Esq. and MISS JULIA C. CLINTON. MRS. CHARLOTTE WARREN died near this place at the residence of JOHN POE Tue. morning 30th of consumption. Sixteen years ago the deceased was a young and lovely girl.... LOTTIE LAMAR was the prospective mistress of 80 slaves. Her father and young husband are both now dead....
