February 17, 1877 Married, REV. B. W. BUSSEY, the popular pastor of the Baptist Church of this city married in Central Baptist Church, Memphis, Tenn, on 18 Jan. to MISS MAGGIE L. LANDRUM of Memphis, REV. DR. LANDRUM officiating. Departed this life on 8 Jan. at Homestead Place, Big Cove, Madison Co. Ala. JOHN C. McGAHA in 43rd year. Son of JAMES and ELIZABETH McGAHA deceased after a lingering illness of about 3 years of consumption. Left a large circle of friends and relatives. Sympathy extended to brothers and sisters. Early History of Madison Co. to be written. DR. GEORGE D. NORRIS and COL. W. B. JONES propose furnishing many valuable incidents connected with New Market. February 24, 1877 DANIEL JOHNSON, one of oldest and most respected citizens of our city died at his residence on Greene St. Sat. night last. Born in Va. Aug. 16, 1800 and was consequently in 77th year. Emigrated to Ky with his father when a boy and soon afterwards came to this county. About 1837, he became an inhabitant of Huntsville, from which time he has continually resided here.... "UNCLE DANIEL" as he is familiarly known in this section was repeatedly entrusted with office of County Treasurer for about 25 consecutive years.... Was a merchant for a number of years prior to the War. Methodist. March 3 1877 MRS. POWHATAN ROBINSON, wife of our talented citizen, MAJ. POWHATTAN ROBINSON of this city died on Mon. morning last, the 26th Feb. of pneumonia after a very brief illness.... From Church of Nativity, REV. DR. BANISTER officiating. March 10, 1877 MRS. MARGARET M. TONEY of Triana died at her residence in that place on 28 Feb. last in her 65th year. March 17, 1877 Married at the residence of the bride's father, CAPT. W. M. ROPER in Madison Co. on Wed. 14th by REV. M. E. JOHNSTON, MR. JOHN T. PAUL and MISS CARRIE V. ROPER all of this county. JESSE G. JORDAN a former resident of this city died at the residence of his son in Aberdeen, Miss, in 77th year. He was a useful citizen of Huntsville for a great many years. March 24, 1877 Married in this city on Wed. the 22 Mar. by REV. R. M. TINNON, MR. THOMAS S. McCALLEY and MRS. TULLEOLA POWERS (wid of WM. H) , all of Huntsville. MME. OCTAVIA WALTON LeVERT died at the residence of a relative near Augusta, Ga. on Tue. at age of about 88; daughter of COL. GEORGE WALTON, a native of Prince Edward Co. Va. who was the second son of GEORGE WALTON, one of Signers of Declaration of Independence. She was born at Bell Vue near Augusta and when a child moved with her parents to Pensacola. She married 1836 DR. HENRY LeVERT of Mobile whose father had been Fleet Surgeon under Rochambeau. March 31, 1877 Married in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in this city Mar. 27 by REV. R. M. TINNON, MR. FREDERICK 0. SCHAUDIES, JR. to MISS HENRIETTA B. OTTO, all of this city. Died at her late residence at Cave Springs near Vienna, AMANDA COBB wife of BRYANT COBB. April 6 1877 COL. EDMUND TONEY died at his residence in Triana Tue. night and remains brought to this city and interred. Died in this city Fri. morning of consumption on 6th, MRS. ALICE LEE YOUNG, wife of DANIEL B. YOUNG. Leaves husband and large family of children. - (3570)
