October 24, 1877 Married at First Methodist Church in Memphis Oct. 10 by REV. S. B. SURATT, MR. FERDINAND N. HOLT of Huntsville to MISS ELLA.PEYTON of Memphis. Died at residence of her husband near Meridianville in this county on 7 Oct. 1877, MRS. ELIZABETH STRONG, wife of MR. ROBERT H. STRONG in her 44th year. Cancer. Lived happily with her husband 28 years and bore 6 children, all save one had preceded her to the grave. October 31, 1877 REV. W. E. MUNSEY, D.D. of M. E. Church South died suddenly in Jonesboro (Wash'n Co.), Tenn, on 23 Oct. One of most distinguished and ablest pulpit orators in U.S. November 21, 1877 Another notice of death of JAMES B. ROBINSON says the funeral took place from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. November 28 1877 Married at the residence of MRS. BLOUNT in this city on Thursday last, the 20th, MR. PONDER and MRS. JOSEPHINE PENNEY. Married at the residence of MR. J. 0. KELLY on 22 Nov. by REV. Z. A. PARKER, MR. JAMES H. BURWELL to MISS M. SUE KELLY, all of Madison Co. Died at the residence of MR. CHARLES COLLIER near Triana on 21st, MR. SAMUEL DENNIS, an old and highly respected citizen in his 78th year. He was, we believe, a minister in the Christian Church. Died on Monday last the 26th, WASHING POE MOORE, son of JUDGE WILLIAM H. MOORE of this vicinity. Funeral this afternoon at 3 from the Methodist Church. December 12, 1877 DR. SAMUEL W. COONS, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this county died last Wed. morning at his residence near Triana aged about 54. We understand he was on the eve of marrying one of Madison's fairest daughters. December 19, 1877 MRS. SALLIE WRIGHT aged 90 died at her home near Maysville in this county on 3 December having lived a member of the Methodist Church 52 years. February 19, 1879 Ex-Sheriff JOSEPH P. DOYLE died of appoplexy Sat. Was well advanced in life and a long resident of this place. Held high position of sheriff, first by appointment in 1868. March 19, 1879 Died at Harsell, Ala. (Morgan Co.) on March 11th, MRS. ANNIE L. SMITH, wife of DR. A. B. SMITH, formerly of Huntsville. Remains brought to this city. Died in this city Saturday last, MRS. VIRGINIA MARTIN, wife of MR. JOSEPH MARTIN, cashier of the National Bank, of appoplexy. Late WILSON HAMILTON died at the residence of J. T. LOWERY near this city last Friday morning March 15th in his 65th year, of heart disease. Had been a citizen of this city and county nearly all his life.... June 11, 1879 MAJ. ALEXANDER R. WIGGS of this city died after a protracted illness on the evening of the 9th.... Born near Winchester, Tennessee, and was about 54 years old. Married MISS HAWKINS, daughter of JUDGE HAWKINS of Tennessee when quite young. Member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His first wife died, in 1864 he was again married to MISS ANNA JACKSON of Jefferson, Texas.... Edited Huntsville Independent since 1854. also later, the Advocate... (had bro WM.
