MRS. HARRIET A. WOODRUFF of Mooresville, Alabama died at Tullahoma (Coffee Co.), Tennessee on Saturday morning July the 28th. Her remains were brought to Huntsville and after funeral services in the Baptist Church, were deposited in the City Cemetery. Her family have lost the tender, loving ministrations of a devoted wife and mother. August 19, 1883 A. WHITED, Esq. of New Hope has just returned from a visit to friends and relatives in East Tennessee. His mother, 73 years old, came home with him. While in Tennessee the family record was made, showing C. P. WHITED married LUCY LOWRY in 1829. The first child, A. WHITED, born October 18, 1830, the oldest of 14 children, 5 sons, and 9 daughters, all living but 2 daughters. Q> August 23, 1833 Thursday Morning, August 16, 1883, MR. EDWARD S. O'BEIRNE of Elgin, Ill. was married to MISS LENA S. MOORE, daughter of JUDGE WM. H. MOORE at his residence near Huntsville. MRS. SARAH NEELY, wife of the late JAMES NEELY and mother of GEORGE M. and JOHN N. NEELY, after an illness of six months, died at her residence in this city on Monday, August 20, aged 73 years. She had resided here over 50 years.... Methodist. COL. JOHN VAN VALKENBURG died at his residence in Huntsville on Saturday night, August 18, 1883 aged about 61. COL. VAN VALKENBURG was a citizen of Indiana and in the War between the States served in the U.S. Army first as a captain of a company and afterward as a colonel of a regiment with distinguished gallantry. After the War, he settled in Madison County...was a kind and indulgent husband and father. His funeral took place at the Episcopal Church and his remains were deposited in the City Cemetery. September 5, 1833 Married at the residence of the bride's father, MR. A. A. BAKER, Tuesday night, Sept. 4, 1883 by REV. W. F. KONE, MR. WM. L. SEAT to MISS BESSIE A. BAKER, all of Huntsville, Ala. October 10, 1883 MRS. EMILY B. HILL of Huntsville went a few weeks ago to South Ala. to be present at the nuptials of a relative. She met MR. SAMUEL LEWIS CRESWELL, a brother-in-law of her sister JULIA...they were married by REV. JOHN CORLEY at Harpersville, Shelby County October 4. 1883. MR. CRESSWELL was our classmate at the University of Alabama in 1836-37. MR. CHARLES C. MARTIN, son of MR. JOSEPH MARTIN, cashier of the First National Bank of Huntsville, and MISS ADA JAMAR, daughter of MR. THOMAS JAMAR, neither of whom had lived a score of years, on Saturday October 6 went to Fayetteville (Tenn.) and married. Died at "Sweetwater" residence of his father, ex-Governor ROBERT M. PATTON, near Florence, Ala. Sunday, October 7, ANDREW BEIRNE PATTON, aged 24. His brother, JOHN BRAHAN PATTON accompanied the reamins to Huntsville. October 17, 1883 Married at the residence of the grandfather of the bride, MR. W. C. WINSTON, by REV. J. F. GOLDMAN at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, MR. GEORGE P. DAVID to MISS ALICE ROWTON... left on a train for Memphis. October 31, 1883 HON. TAUL BRADFORD died at his home in Talladega on Sunday last. He was bom in Alabama and illustrated his native state by gallantry and heroism as an officer in the Confederate army, and his distinguished ability and fidelity as a lawyer...member of the State Legislature and represented the 3rd district in the United States Congress, 1874-76. November 17, 1883 WILLIAM J. FRANKS, son of City Marshall Franks, died Friday. November 9th after a long illness. SEBRING NEAL, son of the late GEORGE W. NEAL died of a chronic disease Nov. 12, 1883. 279 - (3579)
