WITHERS October 24, 1840 On July 15, 1812 a great meeting was held in Fansuil Hall which denounced the war and vilified JAMES MADISON. Themost prominent actors in that meeting were DANIEL SARGENT, HARRISON GRAY OTIS and JOSIAH TURNEY. The are now living, two in Boston and one in Cambridge. On 15 July, 1812 a meeting of Federalists in Middlesex County, denounced the war. Four are now living and all ardent whigs, viz: SAMUEL S. P. FAY, Judge of Probate, father of R. S. FAY, NATHANIEL AUSTIN, agent of WARREN FREE BRIDGE, REV. MR. RIPLEY now living in Concord, ISAAC FISKE Register of Probate. Rebel Convention held in Boston Aug. 6, 1812. COL. SUMNER (now ex-Ad,j GEN. SUMNER) as above was secretary. Among the delegates now living are CHARLES JACKSON, as above, ARTEMUS WARD just resigned as Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, WILLIAM PARSONS, son of Chief Justice PARSONS, WARREN DUTTON and BENJAMIN GORHAM ex-Whig Members of Congress, LEVERETT SALTONSTALL, member of Congress was also a delegate. Worcester Convention against the War, August, 1812; FRANCIS BLAKE, not now living, at its head. Of the 80 members 40 are known to be dead and 20 probably are. Those living: ELIJAH BURBANK of Worcester; NATHANIEL P. DENNEY of Leicester, NATHANIEL CHANDLER of Petersham; RUFUS BULLOCK of Ryalston (Justice); WM. DRURY of Holden (Justice); SAMUEL READ of Uxbridge (Whig Member of Legislature 1837); NATHAN HOWE of Shrewsbury (Justice); PHILIP DELANO of New Braintree; SOLOMON STRONG, now Judge of Court of Common Pleas; WM. CRAWFORD of Oakham, County Commissioner; AARON TUFTS of Dudley (Justice); JAMES DRAPER of Spencer; AARON WHITE of Boylston; NATHANIEL CROCKER and BRADDOCK LIVERMORE of Paxton; DANIEL TURNEY (Justice); ARTEMAS BULLARD and JONATHAN LELAND (Justice) of Sutton, JONAS KENDALL of Leominster (of the Quorum); and SALEM TOWNE of Charlton (Justice).
