September 30, 1846 Died ot congestive fever at his residence on the 22nd, HON. S. C. SMITH, native of South Carolina. His father, WILLIAM C. SMITH emigrated to Madison County, Alabama many years since, where the subject of this memoir was raised and married to MISS NORMAN in 1833. He emigrated to Dekalb County in 1836; was elected Clerk of County Court 1837; elected to Representative branch of the state Legislature 1839; elected Senate from Dekalb Co. and Cherokee Co.; served in that body two sessions and in 1844 was re-elected to the Senate. Left a wife and six daughters and one son. Was a Methodist for the last 3 years. Died at his residence in this county on the 13th, GEORGE DAVIS in his 83rd year. Had long been afflicted with a painful disease--rheumatism. Member of the church for 50 years. For last 35 years a consistent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. October 7, 1846 Died Sunday night last at his residence near this place, ROBERT HAMBLET, an early settler in this county and much respected as a most worthy citizen. He was, we believe, a native of N.C. October 14. 1846 Departed this life suddenly on the 6th inst., CLARKSTON LIGHTFOOT (note: in previous records, we have found it written CLACKSTON or CLAXTON) in his 56th year; of dropsy of heart of which he~Had a severe attack some four years ago.... Native of Brunswick County, Va. and from which he emigrated to Madison County, Ala. in the spring of 1823 and where he continued to reside up until the time of his death.... Amassed a considerable estate... Kind husband. Left a widow and a large number of neighbors and friends to mourn his loss. Never professed religion. Southern Advocate and Petersburg, Va. Intelligence copy. October 21, 1846 Married on the 18th inst. by REV. P. B. ROBINSON, MR. JOHN C. WELLS to MISS SARAH A. EDWARDS, daughter of MR. ROBERT EDWARDS, all of Huntsville. (vol. 153 p. 49) October 28, 1846 Died of consumption on the 2nd in his 21st year near Buzzard Roost, Ala. DANDRIDGE B. SPENCE, son of MR. WILLIAM W. SPENCE of the Western District, formerly of Madison Co. Ala. Sometime last spring he took a trip to the Western District to pay his father and relations a visit and on the way contracted a severe cold settling in his lungs.... Departed this life in Washington (Hempsted Co.) County, Arkansas MRS. SUSAN B. PURDOM (wife of RICH'D B. PURDOM), formerly of Huntsville and daughter of JAMES SEVIER of Washington County, East Tennessee, aged 46 years. The deceased was among the oldest members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Huntsville. In 1819 she joined the church. For some months prior to her departure from Huntsville, her health was declining. When she arrived in Arkansas, it seemed to improve up until the 30th of Sept, last when she was suddenly attacked with a hemorrhage of the lungs. She died a few days later... (From Knoxville Register 15 Dec. 1818. Married on Thursday evening the 26th ult, MR. RICHARD PURDOM, merchant of Huntsville (AT) to MISS SUSAN SEVIER, daughter of JAMES SEVIER, Esq. of Washington Co. Tenn.) Died at his residence in this county on the 7th inst. ROBERT DAVIE in his 89th year after a protracted and painful illness. D(UDLEY) SALE, all of Madison Co. (vol. 53 p. 5) Died in Madison Co. Friday the 29th of Oct. MARY CAMP, daughter of JAMES B. and INDIANA S. TURNER aged 4 years and 6 months. Died in Baltimore, Md. Sunday the 18th of Oct. EDWARD ANDERSON aged 49 years 10 months and 12 days. Native of Montgomery Co. Md. who resided many years in this county; late of Oktibeha Co. Miss. 347 - (3647)
