Upon the breaking out of the War of 1812 he enlisted as a private in the ranks of GEN. JACKSON's army and was with the old hero at the celebrated battle of New Orleans. He returned to his home not long, however, to enjoy retirement for his fellow citizens soon elected him, as one of the members of the Electoral ticket for the State at large during JACKSON's first Presidential campaign. With a well balanced mind and a vigorous intellect, he inflicted stalwart blows upon the opposition, and did much to secure for old Hickory a glorious victory. He was nine consecutive sessions a member of the State Legislature from Madison Co. and was ranked as one of its most efficient members. Here his political career ended, the filthy pool of politics had and for him no charms and the remainder of his life was devoted to agricultural pursuits. He remained unwaveringly attached to the cause of Democracy and always exercised the privilege of the elective franchise. He was a warm friend, with a heart ever open and ready to afford assistance to the needy. (Poem) September 8, 1858 State of Alabama--Morgan Co. EDWIN S. PRICE, deceased. W. PRICE, adm'r.
