January 16, 1878 Died at residence of JOHN GANO WINTER, Montgomery, Ala. on night of Jan. 14, 1878, MISS FLORIE BETTS LEWIS, daughter of the late JOHN H. LEWIS of Huntsville. Her remains will be interred in the Huntsville city cemetery, after funeral service at Church of Nativity. January 23, 1878 Died at her residence in Huntsville, Fri. Jan. 18, 1876 (misprint for 8 I suppose), MRS. HARRIET MARIA CRUSE, widow of the late SAMUEL CRUSE in her 79th year. MRS. CRUSE was born in 1799. She married and came to Huntsville in 1819 and has lived ever since, respected and beloved.... She was buried with the impressive services of the Episcopal Church by REV. DR. BANISTER on Sun. morning last... Died at residence of CAPT. JOHN GANO WINTER, Montgomery, Ala. on morning of 15th Jan. 1878, MISS FLORIDA BETTS LEWIS, daughter of the late JOHN H. LEWIS.... At age of 17 she set out to earn her livelihood as a teacher. February 13, 1878 Our community was startled yesterday evening by sudden death of ANDREW J. JOHNSON, a respected citizen since the year 1843. He had been affected with heart disease and complained yet of rheumatism in one hip. While sitting with his family he fell back and in a few minutes was dead. He was quiet, unobtrusive, liberal in his opinions and noted for his business integrity. He was in his 61st year. Last week was announced the killing of JASPER J. JONES, an estimable lawyer and register in Chancery of Scottsboro, Ala. by REN R. FRANKS. CAPT. JONES was a graduate of University of Ala. and a gallant capt. in Confederate army.... CAPT. JONES married MISS MADGIE WARWICK, daughter of MR. GEOR. H. WARWICK of Huntsville a year or more ago. His wife, orphan child and other relatives survive. February 20, 1878 Married on 14 at residence of bride's mother by REV. MR. WATTERSON, of Winchester, Tenn. MR. LaFAYETTE ORR to MISS SALLIE MALONE, all of this county. February 27, 1878 Died at or near Senatobia, Miss. Feb. 23, 1878 after a short illness, LARKIN W. ECHOLS, native of Huntsville, but long a resident of Miss, and highly esteemed in both states for his many virtues. Leaves a widow and a large family connection. His remains were brought to Huntsville and interred in our city cemetery. In Huntsville Sun. night Feb. 24 of catarrh after 4 weeks illness, MRS. ELLEN LAUGHLIN, wife of J. B. LAUGHLIN and daughter of the late JOSEPH CAROTHERS, one of the most amiable and lovely of women, and a devout Christian and member of the M. E. Church for many years. Leaves a husband, little son and a large circle of friends. In this city Feb. 25, LOUIS GUSCIA, a native of Switzerland, but a resident of Huntsville for several years. March 6, 1878 Died in this city March 5 of whooping cough, JOHN M. infant son of JOHN M. CROWDER. Married at Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn. Feb. 26, OSCAR R. HUNDLEY, Esq. of Huntsville, Ala. to MISS ANNIE E. THOMAS of Nashville. March 13 1878 Died at residence of JOHN A. ERWIN in Huntsville, March 8, of pulmonary consumption, JAMES B. STRODE aged about 20 years. Son of REV. EUGENE STRODE (gf of HUDSON STRODE) the 1st pastor of Baptist Church of this city. He resided in Columbus, Ky. and came here about 3 weeks ago for benefit of his health. Native of this county... Died in Hale Co. Ala. on 19 Feb. MRS. MARY G. WITHERS, wife of ROBERT W. WITHERS, Esq... (Greensboro Watchman) Died at her residence in Huntsville Sat. Mar. 3 (tombstone says Mar. 3) after a short illness, MRS.
