State of Alabama--Madison Co. Aug. 5, HUGH L. CLAY, administrator of JOHN C. LOGEMAN, deceased. Tribute of respect by Church of Nativity to REV. JOHN MURRAY ROBERTSON who departed this life at his residence in vicinity of Huntsville on Wednesday night Aug. 7...devoted minister for about 47 years. Signed by J. M. BANISTER, rector. JOSEPH MARTIN, Sec'y. August 21, 1878 Within the past month, Alabama has lost two of her most prominent men--Early in the month JOHN A. ELMORE, an able and leading lawyer of Montgomery died after long suffering with cancer of the tongue. A few days since, HON. JOHN BRAGG, of Mobile, long a leading lawyer and Judge of Circuit and once a member of Congress, died at an advanced age. The Nashville American brings news today of HON. BALIE PEYTON near Gallatin, Tenn, a prominent politician and member of Congress. We regret to learn that MITCHEL RICHARDSON, a brother of HON. WILLIAM RICHARDSON died in Nashville on Monday nite last of pulmonary consumption. His remains were taken to Athens, his native home for burial. On Sunday last in this city, MRS. HUNT, the venerable mother of the MISSES HUNT aged 82 fell off her back porch and broke her arm and thigh. MR. SELDON WATKINS, a native of Huntsville, who left here 28 years ago is in our city. Sept. 4 by REV. DR. OIVER (OLIVER?), DR. HENRY McDONNELL to MISS ADA FENNELL, daughter of ISHAM J. FENNELL, all of Madison Co. September 18, 1878 Married at Presbyterian Church, in Huntsville, Tue. night Sept. 17 by the Pastor, REV. J. DeWITT BURKHEAD, MR. MALCOLM J. GILCHRIST of Courtland to MISS FLORENCE BURKHEAD, daughter of the Pastor. (Lists attendants etc.) Died at Big Cove in this county Sept. 7 of convulsions, MAMIE, infant child of the late FRED 0. SCHAUDIES, JR. aged 3 mo. She was brought back from Memphis and MR. and MRS. F. 0. SCHAUDIES, SR. took her camping and nursed her till its death, fearing it might be yellow fever. Huntsville was deeply saddened by a dispatch from Memphis announcing the death of DR. JOHN HENRY ERSKINE (son of ALEX) yesterday Sept. 17 at 5:40 a.m....victim of yellow fever. Native of Huntsville, reared in our midst. September 25, 1878 Died at residence of her daughter, MRS. SALLIE P(OLK) SALE in this city, Sept. 14, MRS. R(ACHEL) 0. ELLETT, widow of the late ALFRED H. ELLETT. Member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. October 2 1878 Married at residence of DR. SAML J. WITHERS in Mooresville, Ala. Sept. 18 by REV. MR. McDONNELL, DR. J(OHN) W. KEYES of Iola, Fla. to MISS MARIANNE HENTZ of Ala. In Memoriam MISS SOPHRONIA WHITE was born in Winchester, Tenn, (daughter of SARAH) but removed when quite young to Ala. and has been a resident of Madison Co. for 35 years. She embraced religion in her 12 year. Methodist. Died Sept. 30, 1878 just at close of day.... MISS SARAH HICKMAN LEWIS, daughter of MRS. JOHN H. LEWIS of Huntsville, Ala. died at Houston, Texas on Thurs. Sept. 26 after a congestive chill a few hours before. Well educated and accomplished, she set out to earn her livelihood as a teacher.... 377 - (3677)
