July 8, 1885 In Memoriam. Haden, Alabama July 4. Died July 2, 1885, MRS. E. J. McGAHA in her 61st year. Cousin BETSY JANE was bom and raised in the Cove. Her maiden name was BRAZELTON. She joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church when young... consumption...her husband and four children preceeded her, only two left. July 15, 1885 From Rep. With regret we learn through the Decatur News of the death of MR. WILLIE CRAIG of Floral City, Florida. He left Madison a little over a year ago...leaves a wife and little daughter. MISSES ANNE and BESSIE MARTIN of Huntsville got here yesterday to visit their grandfather, GEN. S. D. WEAKLEY. Florence Gazette Married, at the residence of the bride's father on Franklin Street Tuesday morning, MR. SAMUEL L. NELSON of Mississippi to MISS ADDIE B. HUNT. August 19, 1885 MRS. MARY PITMAN RICE died at her residence in this city this morning, aged 83. Bom in Virginia, only child of LUELLEN and NANCY JONES, in early life came to Huntsville, married ELISHA HICKMAN RICE, who died several years before the war. MRS. RICE leaves no children. September 23 1885 MR. MICHAEL WELLS, living near Leon, Crenshaw County, died a few days ago, between 75 and 80 years of age. He had lived in that county since 1840; Deacon in the Primitive Baptist Church. October 7, 1885 Died at Nashville, Tennessee October 3rd, MRS. MARY FLIPPIN, aged 85 years. MRS. FLIPPIN was for more than half a century a resident of this county. She was born in Virginia but her family moved here when she was yet a girl. Some are still honored citizens of Madison County. The remains of MRS. FLIPPIN were interred in the family burying ground near Bethel Church, Sunday October 4. (Census of 1850, Madison County, shows FRANCIS FLIPPEN, 61 born in Virginia; MARY FLIPPEN, 52 born in Virginia and their children. She was a DOUGLASS.) October 21, 1885 Mooresville, REV. J. N. McDONALD was called to Athens Tuesday last to attend the funeral of MRS. JUDGE McCLOUD. She was a daughter of the late DR. HUSSEY of this place, who preceeded the daughter just three years to the day. October 28, 1885 MRS. JOSEPHINE E. BENTLEY died Sunday morning at her residence at Meridianville. She was a native of this county and the only daughter of the late JAMES N. HARRIS. In 1865 she married A. J. BENTLEY. Surrounded by sorrowing friends, her loving husband and two children, she died. She was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. November 18, 1885 Mooresville. November 16. Our town was shocked early Saturday night at the sad intelligence that MRS. DR. H. W. HILL had suddenly died. She was a sister of MRS. R. C. GAMBLE and MRS. DR. THACH. Her maiden name was GIRAULT. Friends tender sympathy to DR. HILL. Interment took place at the GAMBLE family graveyard. While there MR. GAMBLE planted (pointed?) out a row of eight graves, all his own children. MR. NATHAN A. BESTIE of New Market has gone to Arkansas where he proposes to reside in the future. Notes regarding New Market, states it has DRS. J. C. BLANTON, G. E. BLANTON, D. LIPSCOMB, J. A. R. JONES and F. RICE, also G. D. NORRIS, E. T. TALIAFERRO and P. M. HALL, retired. December 9, 1885 Died Monday night at his home near Princeton, Jackson County, Alabama MR. RUSSELL M.
