at the residence of her son-in-law DR. W. D. PETTUS. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church (to REV. MOSELEY) for more than half a century. She leaves one sister older than herself, two daughters, and many grand and great grandchildren. On the morning of the 17th of June MRS. ANTOINETTE PETTUS, wife of MR. S(AMUEL) W(ILBURN) PETTUS, died. She professed faith at 15 and connected herself with Mt. Zion Church. May her dear old father, sorrowing husband and children find comfort in that she is at rest. Funeral services were performed by the pastor, J. W. HILLIARD. Brother. McLESLOSKEY and son, whose family resides in Pennsylvania, and are desirous of removing the remains to the city graveyard. They were buried in what was a few years since the Roman Catholic graveyard situated on the place of MR. HENRY MOTZ. So far the search has been futile. MRS. WASHINGTON POE of Macon, Georgia is visiting MRS. W. H. MOORE. MR. JAMES S. McDONNELL, our lifelong friend and college chum is at his home for a few weeks. WILLIAM HARPER who lived near Fackler, veteran of the War of 1812, died recently aged nearly 90 years. He was, we believe, the last survivor in Jackson County who was engaged in that memorable struggle. August 15, 1883 Scottsboro Citizen. Account of armed robbery of a MRS. TOWNSEND of Greasy Cove, widow of DANIEL TOWNSEND alone except for her small children; disguised men searched and found $300. A prowler entered the residence of MR. THOMAS W. SMITH and stole $20 from MR. LANE, brother of MR. SMITH'S wife. Died, Friday, August 10, little JAMES P., second son of MR. and MRS. E. R. MATTHEWS. (He was accidentally shot by BLAIR BANISTER, young son of DR. BANISTER.) MR. JAMES BROCK was called to Prescott, Arkansas on account of the illness of his son EMANUEL BROCK. ROBERT H. WILSON, Esq. and two little boys have gone to Wooleys (Wooley Springs, in Limestone County.) August 22, 1883 MR. XAN ERSKINE, a handsome young man of Memphis, is visiting relatives. MR. W. T. RAYMOND, from Selma, is visiting relatives. MR. W. M. BURTON of Florida, nephew of THOMAS 0. BURTON, is visiting relatives. MR. ARTHUR ROBINSON from Memphis, is visiting relatives. MR. BERRY L. MARTIN, formerly of Madison, now of Calera, was in the city Saturday. "A Shooting Affair at Brownsboro." GREEN McMULLEN shot and severely wounded ZIMRI SPELTZ. The parties married sisters and for some time there has not been friendly relations. On Friday, it is reported, an indictment was found by the Grand Jury vs. McMULLEN for assault and battery on his wife, on the evidence of his wife and SPELTZ. Both are well known and respected...a very unfortunate affair. (Note: This name is usually spelled SPELCE.) MR. J. R. LOCKERD died at Scottsboro August 6th of pneumonia. He was road inspector for the M & C RR and a member of Monte Sano Lodge, Knights of Pythias, insured for $3000. He leaves a wife and three children.
