July 6, 1892 MR. JESSE L. FERGUSON was down from Brownsboro last week and informed the Mercury of the death of MRS. JESSE MILLETTE Wednesday. MR. MILLETTE is an honest, hardworking farmer; friends extend'sympathy. July 13, 1892 Sunday night at her home on Meridian Street MRS. H(ENRY) J(ACKSON) PICKARD (35 in North Carolina) passed away. The deceased was born in Tennessee July 15, 1820 and married to her late husband January 14, 1836. She had been a resident of Huntsville a long period, and long a faithful member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Peace to her noble ashes. (Death Record: MARIA WALKER PICKARD (27 in Tennessee), born in Tennessee, aged 72 years 11 months 25 days, died July 10, 1892, Huntsville, Alabama. Widow.) July 20, 1892 Last Saturday night Aiderman JOHN G. BAKER (died); 42 years of age, born and raised Oswego, New York, came to this city December, 1875, married about 13 years and leaves a devoted wife, 3 little daughters and a son, 1 brother and two sisters, MRS. WHEELER of Portland, New York and MRS. BARRATT of Pennsylvania. (Death Record: JOHN G. BAKER, bom in New York aged 48 years 3 months died July 16, Huntsville, Alabama. Married) This morning, at the residence of her husband, about 9 miles from town, MRS. CHARLEY POWELL breathed her last. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Friday. August 3, 1892 Notice of the death at Dallas, Texas July 24, 1892, of RAYMOND, infant son of ROBERT P. and NELLIE P. LYON, nee PARISS, Signed "Grandma." August 17, 1892 MRS. WALTER 0. CARPENTER died at the residence of her husband at Owens X Roads Wednesday. On Wednesday last, August 10, 1892 HUGH OTEY, eldest son of MR. and MRS. A. G. NOWLIN, who reside a few miles from town, died of typhoid fever, aged 24. August 24, 1892 A telegram from Athens last Saturday gave the information that COL. L. R. DAVIS died at 4 o'clock. The deceased was a man of strong and ennobling traits of character and was an intellectual and prominent citizen. MR. R. W. YOUNG is up from Mississippi on a visit to relatives. Whitesburg, August 23. Last Saturday morning Esq. J. D. W. SMITH, after a long illness, breathed his last. Services were held at the residence Sabbath afternoon conducted by REV. B. F. BELLINGER and the remains laid to rest in the family burying ground. August 31, 1892 FRED GREEN, 19, son of MR. and MRS. TOM GREEN of Meridianville died Sunday--typhoid. A letter from Jackson, Tennessee received by the family of DR. A. B. JONES, informs them DR. JONES father is extremely ill. DR. J. C. STEGER, an intellectual and polished gentleman from Dover, Tennessee arrived in the city yesterday for a few days. September 7, 1892 THOMAS W. LYNE, now located at Lone Junction, Texas, is spending a few days in the county with relatives. MR. WALTER MORRISON, formerly of Huntsville, now of Memphis, Tennessee is visiting relatives. NEWT COPELAND was killed by a posse near Blevna, escaping from custody. September 14, 1892 GEORGE M. COPELAND, brother of NEWT COPELAND, swore out warrants against JOHN ORMAN and CYRUS McFARLAND, charging them with murder. 419 - (3719)
