February 19, 1820 JOHN MARTIN, Esq. and HENRY STOKES nominate themselves for Justice of the Peace. COL. GRIFFIN LAMKIN of this county is candidate for Major General of the 1st Division of Militia composed of counties of Jackson, Madison, Limestone and Lauderdale. State of Alabama--Cotaco County. February Term 1820. TOBIAS GRIDER (1 TOBIAS S. GRIDER was in 1840 census of McNairy County, Tennessee) and ELIJAH HOGAN (1 ELIJAH HOGAN married MARY ELIZ. of WM. February 16, 1820 Married on Tuesday evening, the 7th instant by REV. DAVID THOMPSON, NICHOLAS HOBSON, merchant of this place to the amiable MISS SUSAN A. LANIER, daughter of REV. WILLIAM LANIER (Volume 147, page 7). Departed this life on 26th February last at MAJ. ROBERT DAVIE's, SELTON (should be SHELTON) WELBOURNE in his 41st year, son of MAJ. ISAAC WELBOURNE. MR. WELBOURNE was attempting to cover a corn crib and unfortunately fell across a rib pole on the house and was so seriously injured by the fall that he expired in about one hour--before he could have the satisfaction of bidding adieu to his wife and little children. MR. WELBOURNE had lately emigrated to this country from the state of Georgia, where he held many responsible offices, both civil and military and discharged the duties of them with credit to himself and honor to the country. In fact, such was the confidence of the community in him that he solicited no appointment that was not promptly and almost immediately and unanimously conferred upon him. In the death of such a man, we may well say, society has lost one of her brightest gems. MR. WELBOURNE has left a disconsolate wife and six little children and a numerous host of friends and acquaintances to mourn their irreparable loss. April 29 1820 Died at her residence in Limestone County on Friday evening, 21st instant, after an illness of 3 days, MRS. JULIA M. TATE, wife of DOCTOR WADDY TATE and eldest daughter of the late CAPT. JOSEPH COLEMAN of Nashville (Tennessee). 429 - (3729)
