MORRIS aged 24, son of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH J. MORRIS, both of whom preceded him to better land. Written by his aunt, ELIZA P. MARY G. HASTIN, daughter of WILLIAM J. and MARY MASTIN died at the residence of her mother in Huntsville on the night of December 26th. Catholic. January 22, 1880 Died on the morning of the 11th at the home of W. T. BUSH near New Hope. DR. P. M. BUSH in his 74th year. Born in Virginia, married in this county in his young days. moved to Marshall County a half century ago. Elected Sheriff and to State Legislature. January 29 1880 PURNELL LEE HAMMOND, son of JUDGE FERDINAND L. HAMMOND died at the State Asylum for insane January 16th aged about 37. Was a Confederate soldier. February 5, 1880 MRS. ELLEN T. WARD, wife of the late CAPT. JOHN JAMISON WARD and daughter of the late DR. WILLIAM T. YOUNG died suddenly at her home in Huntsville February 1st aged 56. Leaves 6 children. February 12, 1880 Died in this city on the 7th instant, MRS. ALICE J. HAWK, wife of JOHN HAWK, Esq. March 4, 1880 MR. LEROY H. JONES, a well-known citizen of this county died at his home near Meridianville last Friday. The deceased was born within a mile of the place where he died and was in his 67th year. He went to Arkansas in 1858 and returned to Madison County in 1870. Among his relatives are MRS. WILLIAM RISON, MRS. JOHN J. FORD, MRS. R. A. JONES. MRS. ANN ELIZA LeVERT, wife of the late FRANCIS JOHN LeVERT died at her residence in Huntsville Sunday, February 29, 1880 aged 72. She was one of the children of JOHN WITHERS of Virginia. Bom in an old fort near Nashville. Davidson County, Tennessee in 1808 and came to Alabama early in life. REV. HENRY P. TURNER died suddenly at his home near Madison Cross Roads. March 11, 1880 JOHN BROWN, an old and respected citizen of this county died of cerebral abscess of brain. Brother of CAPT. JAMES H. BROWN of this city and of BEN. BROWN of Nashville. MRS. DOLLY THOMPSON, wife of MR. WILLIAM THOMPSON, City Engineer, died last week. March 25, 1880 Death of MRS. G. W. JONES: MRS. JONES, wife of the late MAJ. G. WASHINGTON JONES and daughter of DANIEL JONES (should be DANIEL HARRIS--P.J.G.) died in this county and was deposited by the side of her husband in our city cemetery. April 22 1880 Died in this city on the 18th instant at the residence of her son, MR. SMITH CERTAIN, MRS. ELIZA CERTAIN (wife of JACOB--census nee LEWIS, daughter of JOSEPH and ELIZABETH (SMITH) LEWIS) in her 76th year. She was one of our oldest residents and a member of the Methodist Church. MRS. SARAH FANNING, wife of MIDDLETON FANNING departed this life April 13th of pulmonary consumption in her 63rd year. She was born in 448 - (3748)
