January 8, 1830 Died on the 4th instant at the residence of ARTHUR F. HOPKINS, Esq. in his 33rd year, JOHN P. CARTER, Esq. after a protracted illness. . . . The widow and orphan, though far distant, were objects of his tender solicitude... native of North Carolina from which state he but recently removed.... Died on Saturday the 2nd instant after a short but painful illness occasioned by wounds received from the accidental bursting of a musket, FRANCIS B. BASSETT aged about 22 years, a native of Baltimore. Had been a resident of our town but a short time.... The Guards resolved to wear crape on the left arm for 30 days in respect. Died of a pulmonary consumption on the 19th instant at the residence of MRS. CALLAWAY in the county of Bedford, CALCHILL MENNIS aged 33 years, late a member of the Convention of Virginia. January 15, 1830 JOHN K. DUNN, auctioneer State of Alabama--Morgan County. JAMES S. TURRENTINE, executor of the will of NANCY TURRENTINE deceased, filed accounts and vouchers. December 30, 1829. January 22, 1830 Died at the residence of COL. THOMAS G. PERCY, 10 miles from Huntsville, on the 12th instant DR. SAMUEL BROWN, late Professor of Theory and Practice of Medicine in Transylvania University. Was in 61st year of his age; occupied many and important relations in society. A polished gentleman, a scholar... etc. DR. ALEXANDER ERSKINE and DR. EDMUND IRBY drew up resolutions on the death of DR. SAMUEL BROWN. Died in this town on Sunday last of a pulmonary affection, MR. JACOB BARKMAN, originally from Maryland but for many years past, a resident of this place.... Let his distant friends then repose in confidence that tears of regret have flowed over his lonely grave, (see our volume 100, page 37 for his will) On Monday the 18th instant at the residence of her father, CAPT. ELI HAMMEND (HAMMOND) in this county, after a protracted illness of 18 months, MRS. SUSAN C. M'LARAN, wife of MR. JAMES M'LARAN aged 23 years. State of Alabama--Morgan County. THOMAS CROW, administrator of DAVID CROW, deceased. JOHN MORRIS, administrator of ROBERT J. MORRIS, deceased. January 29, 1830 Married on Tuesday evening the 12th instant by REV. JOHN MORGAN (Cumberland Presbyterian), PAUL HILDRETH, Esq. of Athens (Limestone County) to MISS ELIZA OTEY, daughter of the late CAPT. WALTER OTEY of this county. (volume 147, page 33) February 5, 1830 Died in this town on Sunday night last the 31st ult. after a lingering illness, MR. LAWRENCE R. WARREN, a native of Ireland and for many years a citizen of this place. State of Alabama--Morgan County. HORATIO PHILPOTT and GEORGE W. CRABB, administrators of THOMAS D. CRABB, deceased. February 12, 1830 Died at his residence in Brownsborough on the 8th instant in his 40th year, GRANT TAYLOR, Esq., a U.S. Pensioner. Severely wounded at the battle of Emuckfaw on the 22 of January 1814, which wound was the immediate cause of his death. Left a wife and 6 children.... State of Alabama--Morgan County. PETER STOVEALL, executor of the will of FEATHERSTON WALDEN, deceased. February 19, 1830 Died at his residence in this county on Saturday last of dropsy, JOHN M. LEAKE, Esq. aged about 59. He was one of the earliest settlers here and for several years represented Madison County in the House of Representatives of Alabama. 468 - (3768)
