of this county, MR. PEEL was a man of genious and of no ordinary attainments, and held the appointment of county surveyor for many years, which part he filed to the period of his death. March 26 1831 Died at his residence in this vicinity on 8th instant after an illness of two weeks. MR. JOSHUA FALCONER, aged about 45 years.... Died on 18th last, of a cancer in the breast, LUCY NEAL, consort of WILLIAM GRAY, SR. of this county in her 55th year of age. April 16 1831 Died at his residence in Madison County on 7th instant at an advanced age, WILLIAM MOORE, SEN., Esq. SQUIRE MOORE emigrated to this state from North Carolina and had for many years previous to his death resided in vicinity of this state. Died recently at his residence in this county, CAPT. ISAAC JACKSON, formerly of South Carolina, but for many years a respectable citizen of this place. Died recently at LaGrange, Franklin County, DR. SIDNEY S. PRINCE of that place. April 23, 1831 Married in Washington City on 5th instant by REV. MR. MATTHEWS, COL. FRANCIS W. ARMSTRONG, of Alabama to MISS ANN M. MILLARD, daughter of MR. MILLARD, merchant of the former place. Note: he was son of JAS and SUANNAH (WELLS) ARMSTRONG. His 1st wife was ELIZ. C. AYLETT born 1805 in King Wm. County, Virginia; died 31 August 1823 at Knox County, Tennessee. ANN was 2nd wife. She married 2. GEN. PERSIFER SMITH. After his death, she entered a convent and became a Mother Superior. Married on Thursday evening last by REV. MR. ROWE, DR. JOHN Y. BASSETT of this place, formerly of Baltimore to MISS ISAPHOENA P. THOMPSON, daughter of DR. ASA THOMPSON, late of this county. May 14, 1831 Married on Tuesday evening, 10th instant by the REV. JAMES ROWE, MR. JESSE G. SCOTT, merchant of this town to MISS AGATHA P. RICE, daughter of JOEL RICE, Esq. of this county. Died at her residence in the vicinity of this place on the morning of the 6th instant after a short illness, MRS. MARY COLEMAN in the 65th year of her age. June 4, 1831 Married on 26th ult. by HON. S. CHAPMAN, DOCT. A(LFRED) G. VAUGHAN to MISS MARY 0. WALTON, daughter of MAJ. ROBERT WALTON, all of this county. June 11, 1831 Died in this county on 9th instant after a lingering illness , PHILIP A. FOOTE, Esq. aged about 38; for many years a highly respected citizen of this town. July 30, 1831 Married on Tuesday evening last by REV. MR. THOMPSON, MR. JACOB SIVELY to MISS SARAH ANN SCRUGGS, all of this county. Died at his residence in this county on Saturday the 23rd instant at 3 o'clock p.m. after a short and severe illness, JAMES McCARTNEY, Esq. in the 48th year of his age, leaving a wife, two children and many relations. Died at Chunn's Springs, Morgan County on Tuesday last, the 27th instant after a lingering illness, DR. JOHN R. LUCAS, of Limestone County. Died at her father's residence on Thursday afternoon last, after an illness of four weeks, MISS PAMELIA B. SCRUGGS, daughter of GROSS SCRUGGS, Esq. of this county; she recently finished her education at Salem, North Carolina and was just entering her 17th year. August 6, 1831 Married on Thursday last, 4th instant in this place by REV. HUGH BARR, DAVID A. SMITH, Esq. of Courtland to MISS ELIZA E. ALLAN, daughter of REV. JOHN ALLAN of this town. 472 - (3772)
