On the 28th by REV. P. B. ROBINSON, MR. WILLIAM T. READ to MISS JANE, daughter of the late WILLIAM WEEDON, all of this place. On the 23rd, MR. JOHN ALEXANDER of Lawrence to MISS ELMIRA T. CROSS of Lauderdale County (18 in Alabama; daughter of BENJ.). February 19, 1851 Married in Fayetteville (Tennessee) on the 4th instant, MR. ROBERT HILL, late of this place to MISS MARY E. McCONNELL (see Tennessee IV, page 59). Married on the 15th instant by REV. B. C. CHAPMAN, MR. BENJAMIN S. TIPTON to MISS ELIZABETH PIERCE, all of this county. Died Thursday morning last, 13th instant at the residence of DR. JOHN Y. BASSETT of a lingering pulmonary complaint, MISS MARGARET BASSETT (50 in Maryland)... no ordinary woman... gifted... attached to her brother and to the cultivation of his children.... At Vienna in this county on Sunday the 9th of influenza, MRS. MARY BAINS in the 54th year of her age, wife of LEMUEL C. BAINS...(LEMUEL C. BAINS married MARY EVERETT 24 April 1817--see volume 50, page 76; he was son of GEO. and SARAH (CHARLTON) BAINS). March 5, 1851 On the 19th instant, MR. JACOB K. SWOOPE (see volume VII, page 26) to MISS ELIZABETH T. HAYLEY, all of Lawrence County. On 19th instant, MR. RICHARD F. GRIFFIN (21 in Alabama) to MISS SARAH A. RYAN, all of Marshall County. Died on the 26th ult. MISS SARAH WOODWARD of Athens, Alabama (Limestone County) aged 17 years. March 12, 1851 Married in New Orleans on 29th of January at Christ Church by REV. MR. NEVELL, GEN. MIRABEAN L. LAMAR to MISS HENRIETTA, daughter of the late J. NEWLAND MAFFIT, both of Texas. On the 25th instant, MR. THOMAS W. MATTHEWS to MISS MARY E. ROBINSON, both of Limestone County. Died at his residence in Selma (Dallas County) on the 23rd instant JOHN BLEVINS in his 57th year. He was a native of Tennessee (son of DILLEN BLEVINS) and emigrated to Alabama in his boyhood (see his Bible record). Served under JACKSON in Indian campaigns and participated in many of his most distinguished battles. Extensively known throughout the state... leaves a large and interesting family of children, some of them of very tender years... At Grove Hill in Clarke County on the 3rd instant MRS. HANNAH S. PATTESON (34 in South Carolina), wife of GEORGE R. B. PATTESON aged 36 years. She was an old schoolmate of the Editor of the Advocate. Fond wife and good mother. April 9, 1851 Married on the 26th instant by REV. J. C. ELLIOTT, MR. JOHN C. THOMAS to MISS SUSAN E. COCHRAN, both of Madison County. On the 23rd of January last, MR. GEORGE W. SCALLERN to MISS FRANCIS C. RICE, both of this county. Died in Richmond, Virginia after a few hours illness, REV. JOHN SCHERMERHORN in his 68th year. He was an officer under JACKSON's administration, as Indian Agent in Western States and was at the time of his death attending lands he had recently gained in a suit in Richmond. April 23, 1851 Married on the 9th instant MR. MAJOR A. BROOKS to MISS MARY J. STANLEY, all of Limestone County. April 30 1851 Died on the 22nd instant of apoplexy (tombstone says died 22 August 1851, bom May 13, 1797) near Bellefonte (Jackson County), MR. SAMUEL GAY (50 in Tennessee) aged 60 years. Married on the 19th instant MR. ALFRED J. TUCKER to MISS CALEDONIA F. CAMPER, all of Athens, Alabama (Limestone County). Married on the 15th instant by J. T. HADEN, Esq., MR. DAVID D.
