At Franklin, Tennessee on 19th instant by REV. A. M. CUNNINGHAM MISS NARCISSA H., daughter of R. C. FOSTER of that place and MR. JOHN W McALISTER of Florence, Alabama. In Nashville on 27 by REV. DR. EDGAR, MR. G. H. SCRUGGS, late of Huntsville, Alabama (and of the firm of BALLOWE and SCRUGGS) to MISS E. C. SIMPSON of Nashville. February 9, 1853 Married on Thursday, 27th ult at residence of WILLIAM ROUTT, Esq. by REV. H. P. TURNER, DR. B. F. HAMMOND to MISS OLIVIA ROUTT--all of this county. On 25 by REV. JAMES C. ELLIOTT, MR. AUSTIN L. D. BENHAM and MISS CHRISTIANA C. P. McCLUNG--all of Madison County, Alabama (volume 100, page 16). In Athens on 27 by REV. J. W. ALLEN, BENTON SANDERS (son of WM.), Sheriff of Limestone to MISS ELIZA F. THACH (volume 205, page 68). On 29 in Whitesburg at end of Turnpike Road by A. L. LOGAN, Esq. MR. JAMES ANDERSON to MISS BRITAINA FIBERR--all of Anderson County, Tennessee emigrating to Missouri (volume 71, page 9; we copied marriage record BRITTANNY PYBNOR). Died at her residence in Madison County, Alabama 14 January 1853 after a protracted illness of 2 weeks, MRS. ELIZABETH SCHRIMSHER, consort of WILLIAM SCHRIMSHER in 73rd year of her age. Born in Virginia and emigrated to South Carolina with her father, CAPT. BENJAMIN MERIT, where she lived till she was married to WILLIAM SCHRIMSHER and then (in 1818) emigrated to Alabama and in 1825 joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church...mother and wife. Departed this life at residence of her son, WILLIAM M. OTEY on Monday 25 January, MRS. MARY OTEY in 73rd year of her age. Born in Roanoke County, Virginia 30 January 1780. She was married to CAPT. WALTER OTEY in 19th year of her age after which she went and resided with her husband in village of Liberty, Virginia where she remained until the year 1817, after which they removed to this county and settled on the farm where she continued to live until time of her death. Mother of 4 sons and 5 daughters. At her funeral she was surrounded by all but one of these (who was absent in South Alabama).... Died in Madison County, Alabama January 23, 1853 CAPT. RICHARD HARRIS. Born in Powhatan County, Virginia 20 November 1758. (A full account has been published previously by us. B.J.G.) Died at his residence in Limestone County January 20, 1853, MR. FREEMAN CRENSHAW, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the county. Born in Nottoway County, Virginia in 1776, removed to North Carolina 1795, thence to Georgia 1810 (thence to Tennessee in 1811). Soon after the War of 1812 in which he served 3 tours of duty he removed to Limestone County where he resided till his death. He was an unostentacious man, but all who knew him, admired his unswerving uprightness and untarnished integrity. Died at his residence near Newburg, Franklin County, Alabama, REV. JAMES SMITH (Methodist) in his 62nd year. He was a native of South Carolina but has resided in that county upwards of 20 years. 30 years a minister in M. E. Church. February 16, 1853 Married on 8th by REV. D. B. HALE, JAMES M. COLE of Lincoln County, Tennessee (also in Fayetteville (Tennessee) Observer February 17, 1853) to MISS SARAH A. ARLEDGE of Limestone County. (volume 205, page • 68) Died at residence of DR. ANGEL of this place, MR. HENRY ERNE, a native of Zurich, Switzerland in 24th year of his age. At his residence in Madison County on 17 January, after a short illness of 1 week, MR. JOHN CRENSHAW in his 76th year. Bom and raised in Virginia and emigrated to this state in 1817 where he lived up to the time of his death. At the same time and place on 24 January 1853 after an illness of one week, MRS. POLLY CRENSHAW, consort of JOHN CRENSHAW, Esq. in 65th year of her age. Affectionate wife, tender mother.... 525 - (3825)
