September 6, 1854 Died at his residence in Montgomery, Texas the 15th after a short illness, REV. THOMAS CHILTON, Pastor of the Baptist Church of that place. September 13, 1854 Married in Franklin County, Kentucky on 31st by REV. CHARLES TOMES, MR. ALFRED M. WATKINS of the firm of GILLILANDS, HOWELL and Company, Charleston, South Carolina to MISS JANE D. CROWDUS of the former place. Died at her residence in Huntsville on the 23rd, MRS. MARTHA HAMBLIN (49 in East Tennessee) aged 53 years 11 months, daughter of NICHOLAS and ELIZABETH REEDY, the latter surviving still in the vicinity of Canaan meeting house in Madison County, Alabama. Her husband died previous to our acquaintance in the family. He was the son of the much respected JOHN HAMBLIN. She was left a widow with five children, three of whom still live here. In 1840 or '42 she professed religion.... An aged mother has lost a dutiful daughter, two kind brothers and 2 sisters have lost a sister.... Died on the 5th after a short illness, MRS. PAMELIA BIBB (66 in Virginia), relict of the late THOMAS BIBB, Esq., aged about 70 years. She was among the early settlers in Huntsville; was noted for her piety and charitable deeds and was beloved by all. She leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Died in Athens, Alabama on the 4th, ARCHIE SNEAD (CUZZY; 17 in Alabama) aged 22 years. Died on the 30th, ISAAC HYDE (51 in South Carolina), an old and respectable citizen of Limestone County. Died on Florence, Alabama on the 30th, OLIVER P(ERRY) ASHER (25 in Alabama) of firm of M(ONTGOMERY) P. and O(LIVER) P. ASHER in the 30th year of his age. September 20, 1854 Married on the 7th by E. S. MASTERSON, Esq., CAPT. JOEL M. TERRILL to MISS NANCY A. WOOD all of Lawrence County, Alabama. Married on the 29th by REV. ISAAC MILLNER, MR. S(IGMUN) BROCK to MISS MELVINA E. SIMMS (SIMMONS in marriage record; SIMMS is right), all of Lawrence County. Died in St. Francis County, Arkansas on 5th, COL. EDWIN JONES aged 63 years. Born in Surry County, Virginia September 2, 1791 whence in 1817 he emigrated to Huntsville, Alabama; thence in 1831 he removed to Mississippi County, Arkansas and finally within the past 18 months to St. Francis County where, after a painful and protracted illness, ---(?) he died. Possessed of a peculiarly happy degree of those nice, social qualities that endeared him to old and young....(Memphis Eagle and Enquirer of the 12th; In 1850 Mississippi County, Arkansas--EDWIN JONES 58 in Virginia alone). Died at his residence in Jackson County, Alabama on the 26th of typhoid fever, MR. ISAAC FRIDDELL aged about 37, leaving a wife and 3 small children. Died in Sommerville on the 19th of consumption, MARY L. MORROW (43 in Tennessee) , consort of COL. H(UGH) D. MORROW (50 in South Carolina) aged 47 years. Note: see our volume 27, page 3 for marriage of HUGH D. MORROW to POLLY L. LYNN on December 31, 1821 (her tombstone says died 23 September 1853). Died on 13 September at residence of JOHN HALSEY, TABITHA (18 in Alabama), wife of JAMES 0. HALSEY (26 in Alabama) aged 22 years. September 27, 1854 Married on 5th in Glasgow, Missouri by ELDER A. PROCTOR, MR. CHARLES H. LEWIS, late of Huntsville, Alabama to MISS ANNIE E., daughter of WM. P. ROPER, Esq. of that city. Married on 6th by REV. MR. HUMPHREYS, ELDER E(UGENE) STRODE of Chattanooga to MISS SALLY J., daughter of THOMAS MARTIN, Esq. of this county. (note: grandparents of HUDSON STRODE, famous author of the University of Alabama) Died in this place on the 19th, DR. ROBERT W. WITHERS (52 in Virginia) of Greene County, Alabama. Died in this place on 23rd, MARIA HALLOWELL, daughter of DR. and MRS. A. L. WILKINSON aged about 2 years. 545 - (3845)
