Died in Athens on 28th, MRS. OCTAVIA MORROW aged 75. Died in Talladega County on the 26th, JAMES BARCLAY aged 74. He formerly resided in Huntsville. (1850 Census shows him bom in Scotland and aged 68) JOHN CLICK died in Jefferson County, Alabama the other day aged 97. Note: He was a Revolutionary soldier. 1850 Census shows him aged 87 bom in Virginia. REV. L. B. McDONALD of the Methodist Church died in Shelby County, Alabama on the 23rd. Note: West's History of Methodism in Alabama page 705 says: "REV. L. B. McDONALD died August 23, 1857, near Columbiana, Alabama. He was a native of Giles County, Tennessee and was in the 43rd year of his age...he joined the Methodist Episcopal church in August 1833, and about the same time entered LaGrange College where he remained as a student until December 1837.... September 17, 1857 Married in Limestone County on 3rd September by JOHN A. JOHNSON, Esq., MASTIN C. HARVEY to MISS MARY R. CLEM (volume 223, page 72 for license--MARY C. CLEM). Died--HENRY ALDEN PEEBLES, eldest son of ROBERT and SOPHIA C. PEEBLES; was bom in Mooresville, Limestone County, Alabama on 30 March 1840 and died of typhoid fever August 30, 1857 aged 17 years 5 months. Died in Coahoma County, Mississippi on the 6th, ELIZA SMITH CHAMBERS, daughter of HENRY C. and VIRGINIA CHAMBERS aged 5 years 1 month and 3 days. Died in this place on the 14th, VIRGINIA OCTAVIA, only daughter of JOHN H. and MARY V. KNOX, formerly of Winchester, Tennessee aged 15 months 2 days. Winchester and McMinnville, Tennessee papers please copy. September 24, 1857 Married September 15th by REV. P. B. ROBINSON, MR. ABNER F. McGEE of Mississippi and MISS SALLIE M. KING, daughter of COL. JOHN D. KING of this county. (Written "McGEHEE" in census; and SALLIE W. KING in census) Died in Limestone County on 9th of consumption, MRS. JULIA ANN DAWSON, wife of JAMES J. DAWSON aged 32. (Note: She was daughter of ISAAC and JEMIMA HYDE) Died in Franklin County on the 11th, ABNER DICKSON in his 68th year. (1850 Census shows him aged 60 bom in North Carolina) Died on 10th in Franklin County, MRS. JANE G. BARKER, wife of AMBROSE BARKER, aged 63. Died on the 15th in Franklin County, MRS. JESSE BROWN, an aged and worthy citizen. (1850 Census shows him aged 55 bom in North Carolina) Died in this county on 15th at his residence near Whtiesburg, MR. FRANK BELL an aged and worthy citizen--Baptist. MRS. MARY A. CANNON, daughter of MARY and GILES NANCE and wife of MR. DANIEL A. CANNON was bom in Madison County, Alabama January 23, 1827 and died August 31, 1857. (Note: She married 1st 23 August 1843 GEORGE H. WILBURNE and 2nd, January 25, 1853 DANIEL A. CANNON. See our volume 53, page 12 for will of GILES NANCE.) Died at her residence in this county on the 14th instant MRS. ELIZABETH HILLSMAN, widow of the late JOSE HILLSMAN, formerly of Amelia County, Virginia in her 84th year. Her husband was a soldier of the Revolution and she was the last Revolutionary pensioner of the general government in this county. She was baptized in the Episcopal Church in Virginia the year 1800 and died professing repentenance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ." Died at his residence in Coahoma County, Mississippi September 18th, MAJOR S. A. BOBO in his 27th year. October 1, 1857 Married in the vicinity of ---------- on 23rd, by REV. W. D. CHADICK, MR. JOSEPH MARTIN and MISS VIRGINIA 0. WHITE. Married on evening of the 26th by REV. MR. STRODE, MR. RODAH HORTON to MISS MARGARET E., daughter of JOSIAH D. BATTLE, Esq., all of this county. Married in Limestone County on the 24th by JOHN A. JOHNSON, Esq., MR. JOHN H. OGLESBY to MISS MARY T. INMAN (volume 223, page 72). 584 - (3884)
