MATKIN CEMETERY @ LOCATION: Sec. 22-4S-1W. W/2 W/2 NE/4. Redstone Arsenal. Vietnam Village. MATKIN, MARGARET - Sacred to the Memory of Margaret Matkin, daughter of Archibald & Elizabeth McDonnell, Consort of William Matkin. Born March 20, 1800, died March 8, 1849. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. Note: The marker on Margaret Matkin's grave was most unusual. It was in the form of a large cement box with the inscription on the top side, face up. MATKIN, MARY PATTON - Sacred to the Memory of Mary Patton, daughter of William & M. Matkin, born August 7th, 1836, died Oct. 7th, 1840. Note: Mary's marker is a medium sized obelisk. Next to it is another obelisk which was blank on all sides and a thorough examination of the base did not disclose an inscription. The rock wall surrounding this cemetery is most picturesque. The rock is field stone which probably was picked off the ground in the area, probably by slaves many, many years ago. Only a few of the top row of stones have tumbled to the ground which speaks well for the workmanship. SCOTT-WILLIAMS CEMETERY LOCATION: Sec. 22-4S-1W. Center of NW/4. Redstone Arsenal. SCOTT, ELIZABETH D. - In Memory of Elizabeth D. Scott, consort of Thomas A. Scott, died March 3d, 1839 in the 54th year of her age. Note: The Thomas A. Scott family is listed in the 1830 Census. Mr. Scott is also listed in the census of November 4, 1850 as living alone, aged 57, a Press Maker born in South Carolina. The TVA map refers to this well cared for, fenced graveyard as the Williams Cemetery, however, the only stone was that of Mrs. Scott. There appeared to be numerous unmarked graves in this very old plot. 281 - (503)
