Bradford who first married a Mr. Lee and later a Walker. A descendant told me the following story about this lady. During the Civil War, when Martha J. was a little girl, the "Yankees" came into Madison County and it was their habit to ride their horses until they gave out then "exchange" them for a fresh mount - with or without the owner's permission. One day Martha was playing in the yard when she looked up to see the Federal army coming over the hill. Her father was working in the fields so she screamed to her mother, or anyone who would listen, "The Yankees are coming and those sonsabitches ain't gonna' get my horse!" Whereupon she raced to the barn, opened the gate and sent the family's beautiful horse galloping into the nearby woods and safety. Feeling rather proud of herself she went back to the house where her mother met her with a hickory switch - not for sending the horse to safety but for the language she used while doing it. (Note: She married George A. Lee Aug. 23, 1875). WARD - John Ann Ward - Dec. 25, 1888 - Dec. 7, 1965 WILLIAMSON - Karon Sue - Feb. 12, 1963 - July 29, 1963. HOWELL - Peggy R.
