Cemeteries of Madison County, Vol. II, page 123

GRAVEYARD HILL CEMETERY (New Market, Ala.) LOCATION: NE corner of Sec. 32 and NW corner of Sec. 33-1-2E. One-half mile due north of New Market, Alabama. Note: This very old cemetery covers several acres and is in the worst condition of any of the several hundred cemeteries I have canvassed in this county. I literally chopped my way through brush in order to read most of the stones. It was necessary to crawl on hands and knees under fallen trees and piled brush to read many of the stones. Once, when on my stomach crawling under a tree I came face to face with a snake, so if I have overlooked any stones in this cemetery please blame the snake. There were some tombstones I could see but getting to them would have entailed several strong men or machinery to clear the way. Within this cemetery the Miller Plot and Criner Plot were in the best condition and did not have to be entered at risk of life and limb. BROWN - Elizabeth Brown Died Aug. 17, 1846 aged 84 years.
