Macon-McCrary Cemetery
SHACKELFORD - The the Memory of Thomas Shackelford who was born August 23rd 1810, Departed this life July 31st 1820.
NOTE: Outside the stone wall are many unmarked graves. They are the graves of the McCrary and Wright slaves and their decendants.
At one time the stone wall carried the following inscription: "The earth within these walls is dedicated to the dead therein."

McCRARY - Alice Ellett McCrary - Born April 26, 1841 - Departed this life November 26, 1929. And the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
McCRARY - Williams Wright McCrary - Born October 17, 1827 - Departed this life Feb. 21, 1891. He giveth his beloved sleep.
[Note: He was the son of Thomas McCrary & Nancy Wright.]

McCRARY - Nancy Wright McCrary - Born December 25, 1805 - Departed this life October 16, 1895. Even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
Note: Nancy Wright was the dau. of William Wright and second wife of Thos. McCrary. (See Wright-McCrary Cem. on Page 230). Thomas' first wife (Betsey, dau. of Daniel Wright who was a brother of William Wright) and Nancy were first cousins. Thomas McCrary -m- Nancy Wright, Lisc. Nov. 22, 1823. (MB-III). Thomas and Nancy had two children: Williams who -m- Alice Ellett and Thomas Augustus who bas born July 10, 1837.
McCRARY - Emma Battle McCrary - Born Jan. 27, 1859 - Departed this life September 16, 1879. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
McCRARY - Susie Chilton McCrary - Born Feb. 18, 1877 - Died Dec. 9, 1879. Asleep in Jesus.
McCRARY - Mary Harris Hundley McCrary - Died February 13, 1968 aged 88 years (Funeral marker). [Her tombstone read: Mary H. McCrary - Aug. 11, 1879 - Feb. 13, 1968]
McCRARY - Robert S. McCrary - March 9, 1872 - Nov. 13, 1957. [Note: Also see Battle Cemetery]
STEGER - Josephine Steger, Infant dau. of W. E. D. & L. A. Steger, born Nov. 25, 1891 - Died Nov. 18. 1893. Safe in the arms of Jesus.
In this cemetery there are two markers, side by side, with only the following names thereon: "Eleanor" and "Haden" - they are probably Macon family members.
