Otey -m- Rev. E. B. Crisman 12-23-1868 (MB-5) Sophia T. Otey -m- Alexander G. Nowlin 1-22-1868 (MB-5) Walter and Mary Walton Otey brought their young family to Madison County in 1817. They cleared the land and built a two-room cabin that was to later be replaced by the mansion that now stands a few yards in front of the small, walled cemetery. After Walter's death in 1823 Mary carried on the affairs of the plantation. COYLE CEMETERY LOCATION: Section 6-3-1E - in the S/2 of the SW/4. In a deed (Deed Book "M" Page 405) from Alexander J. Coyle to David Humphries, Coyle excepts a ten foot square of land which is the place where Michael Coyle is buried. Alexander J. was the son of Michael. The will of Michael Coyle[Coil] was dated Nov. 4, 1814 and proven Nov. 20, 1815. [There is no tombstone. The land is on Meridian Pike and was patented by Michael in 1810.] He left a wife and 13 children: wife, Elizabeth; children: Robert, James, Michael, Kelley True, Permelia Gunn, Terthina Jobe, Lucy, Eliza, William, Benjamin, Ervin, Jack, and Stephen. COX CEMETERY LOCATION: ? ? In Deed Book "F" Page 177-179 is a deed from Henry and Judith Cox of Franklin Co., Ala., to William Fleming dated Dec. 4, 1819. The land sold was 520 acres in the SE/4 of Section 13-3-1W, the S/2 of Sec. 18-3-1E, and 20 acres in the NE/4 of Sec. 18-3-1E divided by a line beginning on the west end where a branch enters John Connally's land, except 1/4 acre reserved as a burying ground laid off to include the graves already in the center of the reservation. There is no indication as to who is buried there or of the exact location of the exception. 244 - (848)
