STRONG CEMETERY LOCATION: Section 6-2-1E - C. E/2 NW/4. In the valley a quarter of a mile east of the big curve in Meridian Pike before it meets with Highway 231-431 north of Huntsville. At the entrace to this cemetery is a cement slab on which is the name "J. P. Strong." STRONG - James P. Strong, Co. K, 5 U.S. Vol. Inf., Spanish American War. June 7, 1877 - March 15, 1935. STRONG - Gertrude Moss, wife of M. O. Strong. April 16, 1851 - October 18, 1934. STRONG - James Carlton Strong - July 14, 1914 - Aug. 3, 1915. Asleep in Jesus. STRONG - James Harrison Strong - June 10, 1910 - June 27, 1910. A little time on earth he spent, till God for him his angel sent. STRONG - Sally Strong. [Note: This marker was weathered beyond reading. It may be Sally Booth who married Pleasant Strong Nov. 27, 1817, or it may be Pleasant's second wife, Sally Stewart[Steward? Stuart?], a widow, whom he married Oct. 15, 1835. Sally Booth Strong was born Nov. 23, 1798 and died sometime before 1835.] STRONG - Hopson Strong. [Note:this marker was illegible. This is Hopson Strong, the son of George Strong and Mary "Polly" East, who was born Jan. 27, 1801 and died Oct. 9, 1835. George Strong was the son of Nathan Strong and Caty Callahan; Mary "Polly" was the daughter of Benjamin East and Nancy Pruitt.] NOTE: I was told by Lucille (Lula) Strong Powell, whose family cemetery this is, that Pleasant Strong was buried in this cemetery without a headstone. Also that Mary "Polly" East was buried here without a headstone. If Polly East is buried here then I expect her husband, George Strong, is also buried here. RECONSTRUCTED: STRONG - George Strong, son of Nathan and Caty Callahan Strong, Born Jan. 15, 1773, Married Mary "Polly" East June 6, 1797, Died August 18, 1834. STRONG - Mary "Polly" Strong, daughter of Benjamin East and Nancy Pruitt, Born May 25, 1774 - Died Feb. 18, 1842. STRONG - Pleasant Strong, son of George Strong and Mary "Polly" East, born July 14, 1798 in Virginia, Died April 19, 1853. [See above for two of his three marriages. His third marriage was to a widow named Madden] Note: Lula Strong Powell also told me her parents were buried here. They were: STRONG - James A. Strong, son of Pleasant and Elizabeth Strong, born May 12, 1849, died Dec. 7, 1904. Married Margaret F. Phinizy March 2, 1881. STRONG - Margaret Floyd Phinizy, wife of Janies A. Strong, born Aug. 2, 1855, died Feb. 28, 1926 aged 69 years. Note: The above "reconstructed" tombstone information and other family information is through the courtesy of Lula Strong Powell, Catherine Gilliam, and from the Strong family Bible. PENNEY CEMETERY LOCATION: This cemetery used to be behind a home on New Market Pike approximately 1/4 mile west of the Moores Mill Road intersection. This is in Section 8-3-1E - SE NW NE - but the stones were removed and I can not find anyone who knows who was buried there. 246 - (850)
