DALLAS MILL CEMETERY LOCATION: Section 25-3-1W SE NE. This cemetery was the burying ground for the workers of the old Dallas Mill, thus the name "Dallas Cemetery." It is located on the back end of lots on the west side of Lee High Drive and very close to the railroad track. This cemetery was copied and contributed by Mr. Bobby L. Drake. HAYES - Pearlie Bell, Dau. of J. G. & M. L. Hayes. Born June 25, 1917 - Died Oct. 31, 1919. BUTLER - Herbert Butler Jr. May 27, 1923 - Feb. 14, 1925. Happy infant early blest, Rest in peaceful slumber, rest. ---- Footstone: "P. H. " (headstone gone) ---- Footstone: "W. G. H." (Headstone gone) Note: Mr. Drake was told that a Joe Darnell was also buried here. This graveyard has not been cared for and there were many unmarked graves here. Several headstones appear to have been carried off leaving only the footstones. The following was contributed by Mrs. Catherine Gilliam who found the notice in a Huntsville newspaper. KING - W. C. King, age 50, 616 Halsey Ave., died May 19, 1909 - Buried in Dallas Cemetery - survived by three sons and four daughters. ROWE CEMETERY LOCATION: On Monte Sano Mountain. This grave is located at the site of the old Monte Sano Female Seminary in Section 28-2-1E. ROWE - M. A. Rowe, wife of Rev. Jas. Rowe, died Nov. 18, 1833, in the hope of a Resurrection in Glory. She rests from her labor and her works shall follow her. Note: Rev. Jas. Rowe's stone is also here but has no carving on it. He was a Methodist and served Huntsville from 1827. He died in Athens [Limestone County], Ala. in 1870. It was his intent to be buried beside his wife but his remains were never brought here from Athens. He is buried in the Athens City Cemetery. CLOPTON CEMETERY LOCATION: Section 2-3-1E - NW NE - Approx. 1/4 mi. off Nance Road in field under trees and approx. 1/2 mile south of Winchester Pike. CLOPTON - Sacred to the Memory of William H. Clopton, Born September 29th 1787 - Died May 10th 1826 [box tomb] CLOPTON - Sacred to the Memory of Avey G. Clopton, Consort of William H. Clopton, Born August 30, 1785 - Died December 31, 1841 [box tomb] Note: When I canvassed this cemetery on March 28, 1970, the only markers left were the above two, however, there appeared to have been many other graves in the small tree-shaded cemetery. 249 - (853)
