R(E)IGNEY CEMETERY LOCATION: Section 6-3-2E - NE SE NE; almost 3/4 mile east and 1/4 mile north of Bellview Cemetery NOTE: This old cemetery was surrounded by a fence at one time but now only the posts are standing. Outside the fence are the remains of at least three above-ground cut-stone box tombs that are probably a lot older than the tombstones listed here. I could find no identification on any of them. There also appeared to be many "sinks" outside the fence which may have been the graves of slaves. The entire area was covered with vinca minor and is nestled among lofty trees. Please note that two spellings (Rigney and Reigney) are used here. RIGNEY - Katharine Rigney - 1849 - November 7. (No other info. on this hand-carved fieldstone). NOTE: The stones in this cemetery are, for the most part, badly broken and scattered. The only ones left standing are those of Virginia and W. E. Payne, Lucy A. Reigney, and John and Katharine Rigney. The rest had to be dug out of the ground (mostly in pieces). Near the grave of Katharine Rigney is the grave of a young person marked with unlettered fieldstones. 255 - (859)
