Nov. 27, 1899 - March 14, 1956 Note: This is the Lena Styles who was catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics, hired by Connie Mack. Lena had left the University of Alabama to play for the Atlanta Crackers, then other teams, before his affiliation with the Athletics. He later became a minor league manager and after retirement he opened a tire recapping business in Anniston. Lena later returned to Gurley to farm. He was also a talented story teller, troubadour and Irish tenor. In the 1920's he raised enough money to build a new fire station in Gurley.
