Lead Article, Volume IV, No. 1

From The Historic Huntsville Quarterly, Volume IV, No. 1, January-March 1978.

One of our primary goals, of course, is to preserve our architectural heritage. There are very many buildings in danger of either being torn down or altered beyond hope of architectural or esthetic rehabilatation. One way to possibly steel us in this endeavor is to remember those buildings we have already lost. This issue is devoted to displaying some of these buildings. Mrs. Rene' Pruitt, archivist of the Zeitier Room of the Huntsvilie-Madison County Public Library, has selected these drawings and photographs from the extensive collection given the library by James Record, Chairman of the Madison County Commission. I wish to thank her and other members of the staff for always going beyond the call of duty in assisting this organization. They recognize and appreciate what we are attempting to do in Huntsville and Madison County.

See how many you can identify and locate. Let us know. They represent more than one walk of life, social stratum, geographic area or type of structure. They are gone. They are missed. We are losers.

The Editor (Henry Marks).
