•  "William French (Billy) Garner was born December 27, 1861, to William French and Susan Brooke Hereford Garner, the last of 10 children. Billy's father died when he was one year old; therefore, he was never considered a Junior which leads to some confusion now when trying to distinguish the two. He was born and grew up in the Harvest community, close to Fords Chapel Road.
     In 1888, Billy married Ada Thomas Beadle b. 1865. They had 10 children: William B. b. November 22, 1889, Susan Brooke b. February 18, 1891, Thomas Benton b. October 7, 1892, Coleman b. July 28, 1895, Theodorick (Thea) b. December 27, 1897, John French b. 1899, Mary Brancie (Molly) b. May 9, 1901, Virginia Irene b. January 20, 1904, Helen Elizabeth b. April 27, 1906. One child died as infant and is buried in Fords Chapel Cemetery.
Billy and Ada farmed in the Harvest community until about 1916 when they purchased land in the Monrovia community. In 1917, a new two story wood frame house was built on Old Monrovia Road near the Jeff Road intersection and the large family moved.
After moving to the Monrovia community, Billy purchased several hundred additional acres of land and his farming operation was expanded considerably. It is noted that Billy was a member of the Alabama Farm Bureau Cotton Association in 1922, in an effort to obtain a higher price for the cotton he sold.
Ada died on June 24, 1925. William French (Billy) died on October 13, 1930. Both are buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, AL. The headlines of The Huntsville Daily Times, dated October 14, 1930, reads "Three Prominent Residents Die". Excerpt from obituary reads 'Mr. Gamer was a prosperous farmer of Monrovia and had been a member of the Methodist church since childhood'.
After Billy's death, the farm was divided among the children. All except one child remained on their portion of land and continued their livelihood farming.
Today the housing developments of Kings Woods, Bishop Hills, Hidden Creek, and Worley Acres are built on land previously owned by Billy Gamer and his family." - Vaughn and Garner
