CARDEN, BESSIE, 1898 - 1927. (ROW 33) CARDEN, GLADYS MELTON, 1908 - 1927, DAUGHTER OF J. A. CARDEN. (ROW 31) Bessie and Gladys Melton were daughters of James A. and Mary E. Carden, of Trenton, Jackson Co. Alabama. Other children of James A. and Mary E. Carden were Bertha and Floyd Carden. Compiler believes James A. Carden was son of James S. and Rachel Carden. In 1900 this couple, James S., born Feb., 1830, and Rachel, born Aug., 1834, were next door to James A. and Mary Carden in Trenton, Jackson Co. Alabama. (ROW 37) In 1924/25, City Directory the only Carlton in Merrimack was John and wife Mary, who lived at 633 E. St. In the Huntsville City Directory of 1929/30, Mary Carlton, same address, was employed by Merrimack. CATES, NELLIE ROSE, JULY 5, 1917 - JULY 29, 1917. (ROW 19) CARTER, GLADYS JUANITA, OCT. 8, 1926 - MAR. 21, 1930. (ROW 20) Gladys was a daughter of James Marvin and Lucy Maude (McGee) Carter. Marvin and Lucy Maude married Nov. 13, 1922, in Madison Co. Alabama. The child died of pneumonia after being treated in the Merrimmack Hospital for eight days. Marvin Carter was from Veto, Alabama and Lucy Maude McGee was from McGee Hollow, Lincoln Co. Tennessee. James Marvin died September 7, 1981, at age 79. Maude died Feb. 22, 1989, age 83. They are both buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. Their other children were William Fred, James Roy and Gloria June. Sources: Mrs. Fred Carter. Mrs. Violet Morgan. CERTAIN, J., ON STONE BUT NO DATE. (ROW 14) CERTAIN, JENNIE, JUNE 25, 1903 - JAN. 4, 1907. (ROW 14) CERTAIN, N. A., ON STONE BUT NO DATES. (ROW 14) CERTAIN, JOHN, OCT. 20, 1889 - FEB. 26, 1917. (ROW 19) Charles and Mary had lived in Lincoln Co., Tennessee, before they moved to Dekalb Co., Tennessee. They were were in Dekalb Co., Tennessee in 1900. Mary had 9 children, all lived. The family moved to Merrimack before Jan. 10, 1908. In 1910, they had 11 children, 8 lived. John was their son. He died of consumption. This compiler believes that Jennie and the other children, J. and N. A. were also their children. N. A. was possibly Ada Certain, born Aug., 1891. Other children of Charles and Mary Certain were Mary, Callie (married a Smith), Robert, Julia (married Charlie Baldwin), Stacy (married Charles Brewer), Martha and Ova or Ovie Certain. Callie is Caldonia Smith, she and her child Estelle Smith are buried in Merrimack Cemetery. Julia is Julia Baldwin buried near her daughter Lois Baldwin in Merrimack Cemetery.
