(ROW 11) Harvey Echols was born in Alabama or Tennessee of German parents. Compiler thinks he was the son of William and Susanna Echols who were in New Hope, Madison Co., in 1860. He and Arminda "Minda" Elizabeth (Baker) Cleveland married Oct. 19, 1895, in Madison Co., Alabama. It was the second marriage for both of them. Minda E. Baker was born in June 1857, or 1858, in Tennessee. Compiler believes she was a daughter of Elizabeth Baker, (1831-1905) who is buried in Merrimack Cemetery. Minda married W. H. (William) Cleveland on Oct. 24, 1875. Minnie and W. H. were parents of George, Lee, Robert, Arch, Lula, Beulah, and Willie Cleveland. Minda died in Oct. 1934. Harvey and Minda had one daughter, Jennie C. Echols who married J. Vernon Rich, a Baptist minister. Harvey farmed while the children worked in the Merrimack Mfg. Company. George Cleveland married Maggie Jones. Their son Sam Cleveland is buried in Merrimack as is Beulah Cleveland who married John Potter. Sources: Marriage record (Cleveland), Vol. 8, p. 129. (ROW 34) Compiler thinks these people may be John and Nancy Ellett who were in the 1860 Madison Co. Census, New Hope Post Office. John was age 28 at the time so would have been born about 1831. Nancy was listed as age 22, but age on census records are not always accurate. This is just a supposition. There is no proof.
