Louise. He was killed when a car struck him near Douglas Hill (now Governors Dr. near West Clinton Ave.). His wife and children had already moved to Gastonia. Jennie was the mother of Grade Herron, Mrs. Hamp Brooks, Amedie (married Dale Brown) and Margaret (married Joe Barker), Roosevelt (married Opal Sage), Sammie and Maud M. All the children were born in Putnam Co., Tennessee. Margaret and Joseph Parker have an infant buried in Merrimack Cemetery. Compiler believes that Jennie and Martha and Gabe were children of John and Elizabeth Herron of Putnam Co., Tennessee. Many of the family moved to Gastonia, North Carolina during the 1930s. (ROW 14) James Hill married Mary Cleet about 1882, in Tennessee. By 1910, they were parents of eight children. Lizzie, John H. , William, Bessie, Lucy, Dock, Charlie and Essie were in the home at that time. Some of the children were born in Tullahoma, Tennessee. The Hills had moved to Huntsville by 1900. James had been a preacher since the 1880s, but was not active for the last twenty years of life because of an illness. His second wife was Fannie, who survived James' death. He was born in Tennessee and married at about the age of eighteen, in 1904, to Hattie. Hattie was born about 1887, in Alabama. He was a slasher hand in Merrimack Manufacturing Company in 1910. William and Savannah had three daughters, Leola, wife of Hardy H. Hill, Fannie, wife of Sherly Majors, and Dora wife of Shelby 0. McDonald. Leola and Hardy Hill were parents of Lee, Buford, Luther and Gladys Hill. Leola died giving birth to a baby girl, dead at birth. The infant is buried with Leola. Hardy Hill later married and moved from Huntsville. 53 - (1359)
