Tennessee. Both John R. and Mary were born in Tennessee. Their sons, Robert, James and Cecil were born in Rome, Floyd Co., Georgia. Mary died after 1901, before 1910, perhaps in Rome. Beulah and John Potter had three children: Clarence born 1912, Melvin born 1914, and Mattie born 1918. Mattie married Trietch Thorson. Beulah Cleveland, born in Meridianville, Madison Co., Alabama, was a daughter of Arminta "Minda" Elizabeth Echols and her first husband, William Cleveland (married Oct. 24, 1875, Madison Co.). Arminta Elizabeth was a daughter of Elizabeth Baker. Compiler thinks Sam Baker was her father (No proof). Elizabeth Baker is buried in Merrimack Cemetery. Mindy and William were parents of George, born 1877, Lee, born 1880, Robert, born 1881, Arch, born 1883, Lula, born 1885, Beulah, born 1890, and Willie (female), born 1892. Mindy Cleveland married Harvey B. Echols Oct. 19, 1895, in Madison Co. Alabama. Both are also buried in Merrimack Cemetery. Sources: Mattie Thorson (Mrs. Trietch). Alta Sharp Cleveland. Potter was son of John R. and his first wife, Mary. Both were born in Tennessee. Robert was born in Rome, Floyd Co., Georgia. He farmed in 1924. He married Lucy (Uselton) Byram on Nov. 6, 1918, in Madison Co. Alabama. Lucy was a daughter of Alf and Agnes Uselton of Manchester, Coffee Co., Tennessee. Sources: Mattie Thorson (Mrs. Trietch). Alta Sharp Cleveland. Marriage record, Vol. 35, p. 347. Marriage record, Vol. 44, p. 279. Census, 1920, Madison Co., Alabama, E.D. 149, Sh. 5 A, line 31. POWELL, A. J., JULY 8, 1836 - JAN. 11, 1913, HUSBAND OF LUCINDA POWELL. (ROW 9) POWELL, LUCINDA, OCT. 12, 1840 - MAR. 8, 1905, WIFE OF A. J. POWELL. (ROW 9) Andrew J. Powell and his wife Lucinda were living in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee in 1900. Their children living in the home at that time were William H., Walter N. and Aletha. Also there was William's wife, Eliza A. and children of William and Eliza, James and Clara L., Walter's wife Hattie E. (Wilkes) Powell, and Aletha's husband, William Poole. Compiler does not know if the Powells lived in Merrimack before the time of their deaths or if they died in Tennessee and were brought to Merrimack for burial. In 1910, Walter and Hattie were boarding in the home of Benjamin and Sallie Rodgers in Merrimack Village, Madison Co., Alabama. Hattie's father, William J.(supposed to be John William) Wilkes, and her siblings Buford, Claude and Irene were also boarders in the Rodgers home. Sources: Jerry Wilkes.
