SHAFER, ALFRED, MAR. 19. 1863 - APR. 20, 1920. (ROW 36) SHAFER, MARTHA. JULY 4, 1861 - JULY 21, 1925. (ROW 36) Alfred H. Shafer and Martha W. Webster married January 17, 1885, and lived in Whitesburg, Madison Co., Alabama, in 1888, and in Feb. 2, 1892, when two of their children were born. Both Martha and Alfred were born in Alabama. Alfred was killed in a cyclone as he was building a rock wall on the Weatherly place, (now Weatherly Road, south of Huntsville). Edna Shafer married Dave Archer in 1913. They divorced. Flossie Mae Shafer married Ike Odell on Apr. 1, 1912. Flossie Odell married Horace Lowery on Mar. 29, 1918. Sources: Nellie Smith (Mrs. Clay). Bertie Reavis (Mrs. Roy). SHASTEEN, MARY LASTER, JULY 19, 1873 - MAR. 10, 1927. (ROW 25) Mary was a daughter of John and Rebecca Laster of Decherd, Franklin Co., Tennessee. She married William Dennis Shasteen, perhaps in Franklin Co., Tennessee, about 1896. By 1920, they were parents of seven children, all born in Tennessee. They were Margaret, Willie, John, Jesse, Thomas, Hugh, and Lucy. Margaret married Albert Parker, Thomas married Ruth Shelton, Jesse was accidentally electrocuted at the age of 27 as he was repairing a neighbor's fuse box. His wife, Ella Hutchens, later married Bill White in Huntsville, Alabama. Jesse and Ella had two small children at the time of his death, Jesse and Mary Lou. NO STONE BURIED BESIDE THE GRAVE OF MARY LASTER SHASTEEN. (ROW 25) The parents of these children were Ruth (Shelton) and Thomas Denis Shasteen. Thomas was son of William Dennis and Mary (Laster) Shasteen. Ruth is a daughter of Hattie Keel and John Shelton. Edward died of diphtheria. Other children of Ruth and Thomas were Fred Martin, twin of Edward, the youngest of the family, Doris, James Samuel, Anita and Robert Eugene. Please see Shasteen and Shelton entries. NO STONE John Shelton, born about 1881, in Coffee Co., Tennessee, and his second wife, Lou Ella (Stevenson) Shelton married in Coffee or Bedford Co. and moved from Coffee Co. to Huntsville in the early 1920s. Their children were Maggie, who was second wife of Howard Rector, Carl Davis Shelton, buried in Merrimack Cemetery, 89 - (1395)
