helped build the first Merrimack Church of Christ after designing and making the plans. He first married Margaret Smith of Columbia, Tennessee. They had four children, Maggie, Nanny, John Smith, and Hattie. After the death of the first wife, John William married Margaret Maddox. One of the children of this second marriage was Buford who married Jessie Fawn in Madison County. Jessie Fawn Wilkes died Aug. 27, 1989, and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. John Smith Wilkes, son of John William and Margaret (Smith ) Wilkes married Hessie Victoria Bell August 27, 1897, in Ferry County, Tennessee. Victoria was a daughter of Joseph Bell and Matilda Camille Robinson. Victoria and John Smith Wilkes had two sons living at the time of her death. They were John William and E. L. Wilkes. John William was named for his grandfather. The younger John William married Viola Sharp. Both are buried in Rice Cemetery, Madison Co., Alabama. WILLIAMS, CHARLES E., 1932 - 1934. (Row 10) This was a son of LeRoy and Minnie Williams who lived on 8th Ave. He died on June 3, 1934. WILLIAMS, LIZZIE, APR. 16, 1889 - APR. 23, 1931. (ROW 37) This was Martha Elizabeth (Blackburn) Williams who died at the age of 41 of a illness that was complicated by pneumonia. Newton A. Williams was her husband. By the time she was 21 she had been married 6 years and had borne 3 children. The one living child was James R. Williams. At her death Newt was a farmer and their children, Ella May, Mary Lou, Susie, Beatrice and Robert were still in the home. She had two brothers to survive her: Jim and Robert Blackburn. (ROW 27) WILLIAMSON, LUCY FRANCES, DIED JAN. 4, 1938, AGE 47. NO STONE Lucy Mahaffey was born in Alabama about 1891, daughter of Will and Mary (Ricketts) Mahaffey (both buried in Merrimack Cemetery).
