As a pioneer of Madison Co., a veteran of the Indian and Civil wars he was widely known as a champion of the widows and orphans, the weak and the oppressed; his kindly deeds were worldly of ambition. Faithful to every trust reposed in him, he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his fellow men, and with a conscience void of offense, cheerfully awaited the summons to cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees.
