McDonnell Cemetery, 37-6 Summary Report, page 14

The private land sales of the area containing the cemetery and around it reveal the neighbors' names. It was probably both Archibald McDonnell's slaves and the neighbors' slaves that were buried here, considering the size of this cemetery. It was likely serving as a community slave cemetery. The neighbors were, of course, those who owned the lands in the same section as well as adjacent sections. It is likely, for example, that the slaves of the Jones family (see the Summary Report for the Jones Cemetery, 37-5) also were buried here, since this cemetery is so large and close to the Jones land holdings. The INDEX TO LANDS prepared by G. W. Jones & Sons for Madison County private land transactions (deeds) is given below to see the likely neighbors around the cemetery area in the 1800s: 14 - (1892)
