The 1880 census of Madison County as shown below has one possibility for the Sam Moore that “donated the land for the cemetery”, according to Charles Burns: The problem here is that this black Sam Moore was a farm laborer, not a landowner. Furthermore, he lived in Range 1 East, not 1 West. He would have been in no position to donate land for a cemetery during the memory or knowledge timeperiod of Charles Burns. The only other Sam or Samuel Moore in Madison County in 1880 that could donate land of the arsenal area was Samuel H. Moore, a 37 year old white man living in Huntsville, as shown below: 16 - (1947)
