[He may have also purchased parcels of land from private individuals. The deed records have not yet been fully checked to determine the total holdings of Rev. Lanier.] On August 30 of 1809 William Lanier purchased government land of 160 acres in the southwest quarter of Section 27, Township 4 South and Range 1 West. This is the quarter section of land where the Jordan - Lanier Cemetery is located, and it shows that the Lanier family was in the county and buying land by that date. On the same date, William Lanier purchased from the Federal Government the 156 acres that comprised the NW/4 of S34-T4S-R1W. His 25 - (2044)
