The data to support the statements in the caption above is contained in the files on the CD-ROMs delivered to the Army offices. The CDs in fact contain much more information than the above caption reveals, but the salient points of what is known of Corporal Beasley's life are in the caption. The confusion between the names “James” and “Joseph” (or even “Josiah”) is not uncommon in older records, probably due to the practice of abbreviating the name(s) as “Jos.” and “Jas.”, when the writing of the “o” versus the “a” was difficult to differentiate.
